Need a sample Humvee VIN number.

I finally broke down and went to the DMV here in MS to get my M1098R1 titled and tagged. Walked in and out in 20 minutes with my tag. The only confusion was the date on the Govt title, as it showed the date the HMMWV was transferred to Ritchie Bros, and they actually send a notarized letter...

    Help Identifying Accessory - 01 M1097

One thing I can tell you. If you use it, it will run you out even in really cold temps. Those things throw out very hot and dry air. Love them for easy and cheap heating in the coldest temps.

    RPM engages clutch fan?

I just went through this issue with my own truck. The switch is actually closed when temps are below 220 and opens above that temp until engine cools down to 190 or so, then closes again. The cycle then repeats when and if your truck reaches 220 degrees again. So the switch operates backwards...

    Purchased a 2006 Humvee M1097R1 - Need Help

Mine came with two of those armasafes as well, but I didn’t even attempt to charge them. The batteries were clean and looked new although the dates said they were about 7 yrs old, so I didn’t even think about trying to restore them. I still have them, so I may try and check the fluids and see...

    Purchased a 2006 Humvee M1097R1 - Need Help

Most everyone that has an R1 variant seems to have a 3 speed, including myself. I was hesitant to bid on my R1 but I got lucky and have a solid HMMWV. I got it cheap compared to what most running ones are going for now. It needed some obvious parts and some TLC but it is in good overall shape as...

    Purchased a 2006 Humvee M1097R1 - Need Help

The 4 speed will have park and 3 speed won’t have a park option.

'86 M998 No Wait Light, Nothing

I don’t know enough about the smart box to know, but leaving the ignition switch in run should not fry it I wouldn’t think. It sits in run while running, so worst case scenario it ran your batteries down. Now it’s possible you fried something charging your batteries, but if not, there may be...

    HMMWV Speedometer Shenanigans

Thanks for the tip. Will give that a try.

Why won’t my doghouse clip closed

The metal hooks that the clip grabs bend easily. I had a hard time gettining mine to close until I realized the hooks were bent. Look at your hooks to be sure one or both are not bent out of place or the shape of them is not correct. They bend easily with a pair of pliers. I found a set of...

    HMMWV Speedometer Shenanigans

I’ve noticed my hmmwv speedometer is really jumpy at low speeds. Once I hit 30 mph or higher, it smooths out and works as expected. Wondering it this grease adapter might help that low speed jumping needle?

    HMMWV Speedometer Shenanigans

I haven’t tried one of these on my HMMWV, but I did put one on my M1078 Truck and it works great. I’ve tested it and the speeds are accurate.

Potential for New Soft Doors HMMWV

OK, I said I would report back on the ability to swap doors from left to right or right to left. I was partially correct. Watch this video. He suggests cutting and rewelding the hinge brackets, but after thinking about that one a bit, I think you could probably just create a spacer with the...

M998 leaking coolant from front of engine behind power steering

Before you get too far along, where on the motor is this bolt and leak? If near, like in just above, the oil filter, I had a similar issue that turned out to be a clogged drain for water, rain, fuel or whatever collects between the motor and transmission. It looked like a rusted off bolt, but it...

Potential for New Soft Doors HMMWV

Maybe we are talking about two separate companies? Breton Industries, the government contractor that used to sell doors and tops that I'm talking about, is in New York. Maybe they have a factory in Indiana and their corporate offices are in NY? The guy I spoke with today was in New York and he...

Potential for New Soft Doors HMMWV

I talked to Breton by phone today. They are not back in this business and no longer make any of the doors or tops. They sold that business off to another company, who has since shut it down.

Potential for New Soft Doors HMMWV

I agree, and the frames do bend easily, as I had to bend all of my other doors to get a good non leaking seal, so that's not a problem. I think it will work. I found someone that will swap a right rear door for a left rear door, so I'm good either way. When I take one apart, I will verify if my...

Potential for New Soft Doors HMMWV

The fact that they are a mirror image is why I think it would work, as you simply put the skin on the opposite side of the frame. Then put left hand hinges and door handle on it. I looked in the parts manual, and they don't show a parts number for just the frames, only the doors with skins...

Potential for New Soft Doors HMMWV

Question on doors, and please hear me out, as this might seem like a dumb question up front. If you strip the cloth off of a right-hand door and a left-hand door, is there any difference between the two frames without any cloth or handle on them? To me, the frames look identical other than which...

Potential for New Soft Doors HMMWV

UPDATE: If you can get to that page still, do not order from it, as I made that mistake. I have been thinking I was waiting on doors that were just on backorder, but that is not the case. They refunded my money today and said they were no longer in the business of making tops and doors for the...

Fan not engaging at temps over 220

I will just add that I ordered a fuel gauge from ebay and it was DOA. They sent me another one and I installed it and it is working, but it just felt lighter and much flimsier than the original, so I placed another order from another parts guy and it shows up today. The new gauge was $20 more...
