Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

I got the starter bolts in the mail yesterday and got the starter installed. I got everything under the truck reassembled last night short of the transfer case and drive shafts. I’m pleased to report that she started right up! Sounded real healthy too no more droning vibrations or rattles...

Thanks man! Yeah I’m trying to figure out ways to add some entertainment without messing with the truck. I’m not about to lose my rifle mounts for rear speakers, or mess up my doors. The dash speakers are just so small and I can’t imagine them being loud enough especially with the lack of...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Thanks man. I really appreciate that! It started pouring outside so I’m done for the day, but I wanted to share a little bit of the stuff I been working on with the interior. I took apart that replacement cluster I bought and repainted the plastic housing and the face. I got the cigarette...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Yeah out of all the shops I’ve gone to out here in Milwaukee this welding shop is the first one to fall a bit short. Their price wasn’t that great and they wouldn’t give me a rounded number cash price. The guys wife got offended that I even asked and asked me if I felt comfortable giving him a...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

I took it to a local welding shop this morning. I told them I’d like it plated over but they said they didn’t think it was necessary and that beveling the crack and filling it would be sufficient and cheaper. I personally think they just didn’t wanna do the extra work, but I just went with...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

I got the new flex plate installed and the transmission re-installed with original bolts. I also got the torque converter and new TC adaptor installed. I was just cleaning the cross member to prepare it for re-installation when I came across a small hairline crack near one of the holes where...

Ok! I got all the long bolts installed in the bell housing and the transmission supported with the tranny jack. I’ve also removed the cross member and transfer case adapter. Check out how bad the adapter was cracked! Thank goodness it didn’t fall apart when I was driving it! I dropped it on...

I’m working on the flywheel swap right now. I just got all the bolts holding it to the torque converter removed and I’m getting ready to install the longer bolts in the bell housing. It was never mentioned before, but is the dip stick tube ok to stay attached or does that need to come out too...

Yes sir! My two generator filters on the bottom are good but my top big filter has a crack where it says 4WD. I’d love to replace it with a nice one if you got it. Let me know! Thanks!

I’m going to reuse the cucv ones, I mostly got this for the white housing part since mine was all broken and missing the mounting tabs and gear indicator string slot. You wouldn’t happen to have an extra 4x4 and low oil cucv lens tho would you? Mine is cracked on the 4x4 part.

It was actually pretty big with a small army of guys working in the back. I think they do a lot of big rig stuff too. The guy I talked to was the starter expert and right when I pulled the starter out he was like “oh a 6.2 diesel huh?” And then I said it was a 24V and he said “oh military huh”...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

The shop I took the starter to was really awesome. The guy told me right off the bat the starter drive was shot because he was able to turn the pinion easily with a pen. He said he couldn’t even believe it was able to start the truck lol. I had a NOS solenoid I took with me and he said he...

I got the starter off… that was fun, especially removing the wires from the solenoid lol. It looks ok, I was worried the pinion would have some damage but it doesn’t look like it. The bolts holding the solenoid on were a little loose though. I’m thinking about dropping it off for a rebuild at...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

I started getting ready to swap the flywheel today. So far I’ve removed the inspection cover, trans cooler lines and the shift linkage. Also the oil filter because it seemed to be in the way and I’m going to do an oil change after this anyway. I just want to clarify a few things before I go...

From the seller “the stop shop” on Amazon. 25 foot roll with an assortment of fittings for $26.99. They also sell the gravel guard spring sleeves. The flare tool I used is from Amazon also. Brand is Titan. Thanks!

I got all the stuff to fix the brake line today so I went ahead and got that done. I’m really surprised with how nice it turned out. My brake pedal is now nice and firm and no more leaks! I almost want to do the other brake lines because they look so crappy compared to this one lol. But...

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

I was looking at pics of clusters online and came across this dummy light cluster that has the one piece clear plastic over the top that would usually go onto trucks with gauges and a clock. I kinda like it because it would add some protection to those fragile film lenses for the...
