I was mistaken on the wire identification, after looking closer at the picture the wire that was loose is the + connection, the smaller wire with the Packard connector is the sense wire. Still same outcome as reported before, no fault of the electrical system will cause your engine to run...
The 3-53 requires no power to stay running, it's all mechanical, once the starter gets her going it doesn't care about power. That wire is the sense wire for the alternator, it tells the alternator to "turn on". Being loose it may have been turning the alternator on and off causing the engine...
If you put the transfer in neutral and select 4th gear you can watch the oil "pulse" through that clear tube, it is barely moving, Lucas additive is your best insurance. I have seen the tube extended out through the air duct but I would worry that the minimal flow would not lubricate properly.
Looks like the positive lead going to the alternator, however it would have to be a self exciting one wire alternator to work as wired. Is it making voltage when running? Congrats on the new addition. OK, missed that it is working but no juice to batteries. You will need to trace that...

Here are some pictures of what is on the M880 dash, dash top a real pain to remove, instrument cluster, cluster face and heater controls. The top is held on with pal nuts and are difficult to reach and of course won't turn off by hand. The heater control shown is missing the fan switch. These...
