Got the frame loaded on a trailer. Took about 2 hours by myself... clearing the way took most of the time then it was simply using scaffolding pipes and axle stands to lift it up and push the trailer underneath.
Waiting for another quote for getting it media blasted and sprayed with epoxy...
My Navistar 6.5 came with that filter. I'd have to look, but I think I planned on moving it away from the single pane intake. I believe it would sit in the way of the vacuum pump?
I have thought about this before. I do own a DeWalt heat gun that can be used for plastic welding. For this one time need, I think I'll let a pro handle it.
Good idea. I already tried to use as short as possible bolts where I can. Some of the original bolts (all over the truck) where way too...
Axle stands are a success! Glad I bought an engine hoist. Was able to lift one side of the 14-bolt onto the stand using the hoist and managed to lift the other side on it by myself. The D60 was still attached to the leaves/frame. I hoisted up the frame, rolled the stand under it and unbolted the...
Sofar I've been able to get around with just metric tools. Only on the instrument panel I found bolts that where too big for 6mm and to small for 7mm. I managed to get them out using pliers though. Tapped the holes to accept metric bolts.
Veins clogged up after years of smoking. Good thing he is the type of person that can't sit still. It's tougher for him now, but he keeps busy.
I hate having the speaker holes there too. Oh well, it's what I have to work with. The donor doors are in worse shape then I thought, will probably use...
Yesterday I did some more work on getting the blazer fuel tank (test) fitted. Ordered a plastic tank (31 gallon) and a new sending unit. Waiting on those for final fitting. I then loaded up the 1008 and 1009 donor doors and took them to my work shop (closer to home and more comfortable to work...
Thanks, that clears some things up to me. On a slope with a load I pull the e-brake first and then put it in gear so the engine/trans doesn't get strained unless the e-brake can't hold the load. That's my thinking at least...
I guess I'm like you, seriously over loading things. Not time to...
Thanks for the info. Both axles are 8 lug at the moment. I'd like to keep it that way.
E-brake is a requirement over here, that's the main reason I need to have it. I don't know much about automatics, only driven them a couple of times. I have driven a half-automatic(s) for 5 years but in P...
Thanks for that link. I did not come across that store yet. My favorites list is getting longer and longer... I really need to start organizing them...
I have read about removing the rear proportioning valve before and I already planned on doing so. When I do install rear discs I will replace...
I'll try and snap some pics of the front axle tomorrow. Pretty sure I identified it as a D60 once.
I thought all 14-bolts and D60s where 1-ton axles. What are the differences with their 3/4-ton counterparts then? Besides brake size I guess.
I was just thinking about the gear ratios. Will have to check that.
Ever since coming across disc brake conversion kits I have been kinda interested in them... Now even more so... What do you guys think about those? If I do get one it will be with e-brake option.
I think you guys are on to something. It IS different. One of the previous owners must have swapped the complete axle for one with different drums. Explains the faded blueish tint on the diff, doesn't look like a factory color to me.
I was near the truck today so went and got a close-up photo.
Might be the angle of the photo? This is what was on it when I bought the truck. Never really looked at it, figured those are stock? Do you have any reference shots?
After hours and hours of removing body mounts from the M1009, I was finally able to get the rear cross-member out. At first I removed the four mounts at the rear and tried to lift the body from the back. No luck. After cutting holes in the floor I was able to remove the front left mount and...
For test fitting I used 8.8 bolts. Will look into 10.9 bolts. There hardly is any slop. Actually, the M12 bolts, while thicker then ORD bolts, still had lots of slop on the original holes in the shackles...
I like how the blazer crossmembers are shaped, with the tank sitting snug against them...
Too few hours in a day and too few days in a week... I hardly get around to working on my truck! I've been getting jobs almost every weekend! I did tell everyone no more jobs on weekends! Sundays and Mondays (my weekends are 1 day off) are now reserved for my truck (mostly).
Last Monday I got...
