While at work I got a chance to fix the broken alternator bracket.
Also figured out why it broke. Someone left out the spacer shown in the following illustration.
Stripped the 6.5 front.
Fuel pump (DB4) is coming out next to make place for the 6.2's DB2. Ordered a FlowKooler water pump. Not going to re-use the one from the 6.2.
Upon closer inspection, my alternators seem to be originals. :D
Brought the 6.5 inside. It sits in the living room now (house isn't habitable yet :D).
Right now, I've set my mind on keeping the CUCV belt system. Removed alternators, power steering pump and brackets from the 6.2. Found one broken bracket.
I almost ordered one with the same specs as Winston, but I'm in doubt now. I'm going to change to a 6.5 which currently has a serpentine belt drive with one (smaller) alternator. Not sure if I will keep it that way or convert it to the CUCV belt system with dual alternators. If so I will also...
Thank you very much! Going to order the adapter.
I really feel motivated to get the instrument panel ready now. My girlfriend will be so happy having that big box with instrument panel parts gone from the dining table!:lol:
My apologies for being absent for so long. An opportunity for taking over part of the company I'm working for came along and I've been really busy sorting that out.
Can the winner finalize the design after being chosen? There are some details I'd still like to put in mine in case it is chosen...
I like the idea of a soldier saluting a military vehicle in silhouette. I might add that to my design, but I feel the design should not be to crowded. Less is more. I would not incorporate the American flag myself. While most people on SS probably are American, there are people from other...
Rick, I did I misunderstand? It is a good thing to pull the trans without the torque converter? Or should I have removed the torque converter before pulling the trans? When I put the trans back in, I have to attach the converter to the trans first?
I was indeed referring to you. I wasn't talking about technique though. Seeing your progress on your M1009 thread, mine seems to go really really slow ha ha! Btw., thanks for that thread (and others). I learn a lot from your posts, and they are motivating!
I will remove the torque converter...
Spent the afternoon removing stuff from the frame. Fuel lines, exhaust bracket, sidebar brackets, shocks, cable clips, etc.
Rick must be laughing his ass off seeing my progress...
Anyways, people have been asking on forums how to remove rivets from the frame. I found it to be pretty easy...
A mate came by and he was like "the cab is loose right, let's try and lift it off". It was heavy, but not as heavy as I expected it to be.
We also dropped the transmission/transfer-case and the fuel tank.
Today was a good day. Got the engine and look at what I found:
That really made my day! :-o Here she is, ready to be put into the trailer:
And a picture of the machine it came out of:
Also got a NP246 for free. The machine will be displayed next to the ice rink so it wasn't needed...
I learned that the stock steering column is also used in Jeeps. I got the lower bearing (on the outside of the firewall) from a Jeep dealer. They're easier to find if you look for them as Jeep parts and supposedly cheaper too. Not sure if the same applies to the tilt column, but I bet it will...
