The block looks good. Does not seem to be a Navistar though. I found "01 18 J" cast on the backside. Does that translate to a proper date?
Edit: Took some Googling because that code didn't match any show in search results I got. Now I found 1 source claiming this is 01 August 2002. And that...
Siphoned empty the still half full M1009 tank I had removed, disconnected transfer-case linkage and unbolted the hydro-boost unit. Cab is pretty much ready to be pulled off.
So, it's probably 2000'ish. It has been used on a ice-resurfacing machine called Olympia (based on a Silverado chassis?).
Conclusion; not a lot of miles/hours and no abuse. I'm going to have a look next Tuesday.
Do not know if the symbol is there. Might have to go and take a look for myself. If it is, might be worth it just to have a more robust and reliable engine?
Where ever I look I get different HP values. Just for the 6.2 I got 135 (TM), 130, 143 and 165. The one from the TM seems most...
Actually no, I have 2 running 6.2s. I figured an upgrade in horsepower and torque wouldn't be a bad thing if I can get it for a good price. Detroit Diesels are fairly rare over here, 6.5s even more so.
By the way, if I do end up buying it, I will sell one of the 6.2s to recoup I guess about...
I ran across this 6.5 for sale:
Casting number 12555506. From what I can find this means '97 or newer with updated main-bearing bolts to prevent a (common) cracking issue.
Other then that, all I know at the moment is that it is in some kind of machinery equipment.
Is this a worthy upgrade...
I don't want to hijack this thread, but I would like to see those detailed pictures. Might give me some ideas on how to do mine.
I had replaced my pintle hitch with a Rockinger hitch (1st pic), works great although a bit too high and the bracing sits in the way of my K5 tank swap. I liked the...
I plan on using paint, primer and thinner from De Ijssel Coatings. Very well known brand usually used on yachts tho. Flat paint for the body and satin for frame, engine bay and parts as it's less porous. Specification sheets of De Ijssel mention 320 to 400 grit, but I think I'll go closer to...
The cab will be completely stripped before paint. I was never really worried about the rust I knew of, like the rocker panels. Patch panels don't look too hard to fit in. If it really is that bad, I can maybe cut some "patch panels" out of the M1009?
I will be using a two-component paint...
Not too much done today. I wish I had cucvrus' knowledge so I could take the whole truck apart in half a day. I'm learning as I go, trying to figure out how the truck is put together and taking reference pictures for later.
Unmounted and disconnected more stuff on and going through the...
Good luck! Double check everything before you go there. Some of the inspectors can be a real pain in the ass, they'll sent you away for the dumbest things and you have to go through everything and pay again.
Also make sure they get the proper (tow) weights. I've seen people on a Dutch forum...
Since I already had the bed and most of the front off and need to pull the motor I decided to go full frame-off restoration. Will be pulling the cab "soon". Progress is slow. I only have Sundays and Mondays and even then I have to work sometimes.
Today I removed the stock(?) ball hitch...
I just checked what RDW (our DMV) has on file about my VIN, it says "rechter balk achter vooras" (Yeah I'm Dutch too :D), so "right rail behind front axle".
In the links posted by porkysplace I see people mentioning VIN on the top of the frame, passenger side near the front seat, so same place...
