That is a good view of reality in purchasing used equipment, GL auction or otherwise.
Thing is, I prefer not to look at my purchases that way. If I were willing to face the reality, I probably would not buy stuff from GL.
Then I would have more time and money. What good would that be?

Gotta M105 trailer that needs to be removed from Fort Meade by the end of March. Any hauling or storage assistance is appreciated.
I have flexibility in the destination, as I have family in the following places: NYC, NY Catskills or Buzzards Bay, MA, your pick.
If you are available to assist...
The last deuce I picked up in Richmond, VA had a load of old gas in the tank for some reason. It smelled terrible, that classic old gas stink.
The truck fired up and ran alright once I put batteries in it. But with each tank of fresh diesel (I was headed for MA) the engine ran better and...
DO NOT PM CARNAC.
Srjeeper, be advised:
He doesn't want ID requests coming in via PM's. Use the VIN thread he made for this purpose: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/members-rides/62871-2011-vin-info-thread-24.html

Mr. Kaplan,
On behalf of the entire Central American Chapter of SS, I welcome you.
I have not read all the abuse you claim to have received, but believe that due to your posting this thread that your skin is sufficiently thick enough to secure a place in the rank and file.
Carry on and...
ssgtcampbell thanks for trying to assist our group and for also playing by the rules. Sometimes the rules seem obtuse but they are still the rules.

Maxwell, thank you for sharing your loss and troubles, you have uncovered a discussion about using the fuel shut off that I have never considered. Your loss may save scores of other engines.
And may I be the first to point out my 1st page post claiming my experience of cam pieces flying out of...
Maxwell sorry to hear about the failure and good for you to have collected a spare motor!
Last time I saw a cam break and get spit out, it was from a rod that broke at the piston end and then came around and karate chopped the cam. I wonder if yours went the same. Not that it makes a...
While I cannot answer the question if the motor has the guts to pull the truck at 70mph, I can say that you are proposing to make a pig fly.
There are way better choices for a road truck for less money than you are proposing. Converting a low power, low speed off road truck is pretty much a...
Wow, what an insightful contribution.
Thing is, we already know we are a bunch of sanctimonious cavemen. My question is WHY you think it is up to YOU to point it out?
I say you are the leader in sanctimonious behavior. And your fellow sanctimonious cavemen welcome you and invite you into our...
You guys are thinking right. The modern motors being considered come with P/S pumps and A/C compressors built into the equation.
Making the deuce a daily driver is a very do-able project!

I am reemphasizing the good advise of mangus580.
That chip you found may be an indicator. When you open the cover you will have to look VERY carefully to see any cracks because they are very fine and you will have a poor angle of inspection. Do a few complete rotations for the inspection to be...
That looks pretty impressive! And the price seems very fair. What is your experience/skills/tools in relation to a complete rebuild or is that your plan?
