Using the common body ground, the new one has no reading at any setting. At the 2M setting on my multimeter my ohm reading on the old solenoid is all over the place on either pin or the body.
Multi-tested the fuel shutoff solenoid and I do have 24V going to it.
Taking it apart there was no sign of fuel in the manual shutoff valve while the diaphragm seat was wet with fuel indicating the pump's working but the solenoid isn't opening. Bench tested the solenoid and confirmed 24v but...
Installed the new fuel shutoff, long story short, doesn't work.
The new solenoid is a little different than the old model. The old style diaphragm is in both the old and new solenoid, however in the new model it fits into another diaphragm that rides in a machined spacer. Not sure why...
Installed a STARK Crane with Cable Winch in the cargo bed primarily to raise and lower the spare tire...NOTE TO SELF: KEEP BOTH HANDS ON THE CRANK HANDLE WHEN LOWERING
Unit consists of an 1100lb boom with boat winch and a 3 ton hydraulic jack. The combination winch and jack sold me. The price...
Took the fuel shutoff solenoid apart and I'm not sure what I'm looking at.
Was expecting a spring, what I have is something akin to a wave washer enacting upon a diaphragm?
I assume when the electromagnet is activated the wave washer/spring is pulled flat allowing fuel pressure to move the...
Took a hammer to the solenoid and got the engine to shut off electrically, but now the engine is hard to start and runs rough. Figure the valve is only partially open now. Also noticed a leak in the manual shutoff. Found the TM to remove the solenoid and manual valve but can't find anything on...
Changed the oil and now the engine won't shut off "normally" that is.
I either have to use the emergency shutoff valve or repeatedly turn the battery switch on and off.
It's not a runaway, it's idling at 500RPM with no hesitation in the throttle.
It's just that the ignition switch, battery...
Cobbled together a cargo spare tire holder, or at least that's what I think this structure on the truck is for. Can't find it in the TM's, but it lines up with the lugs holes perfectly.
I used all thread a couple eye bolts, fender washers a 2X6 and 2X12 to isolate the tire from the bed. Holds...
I understand the difference between split ring and split rim wheels and the dangers involved with airing them up. Both have been covered extensively on this site.
But given the age of our rigs and unknown factors of abuse, corrosion and metal fatigue, are there examples of "split ring" failure...
Replaced the On/Off Switch
Picked up a new one from Memphis Equipment Supply. Had to remove the ignition switch and light switch to get at it. Here's a short video on the process.
It started out fine, ran through the gears OK, then when it warmed up I lost power in all but first. After flushing the transmission and filling with 90W GL1 everything was fine. Not sure what happened but I read somewhere that synthetics are designed for transmissions with filters, they entrain...
I flushed my transmission with diesel, ran through the gears with the transfer case in neutral, then refilled with a 90W GL1 gear oil.
Manual calls for an 80-90W GL1. Problem is no one on this continent makes it anymore. Our transmissions have yellow metal parts which aren't compatible with...
Found my new favorite toy...
No hammering away at the tire to break the bead just brrrrt, brrrt and she's off. Also loosens the ring.
Now I have to walk the ring off.
This is a Vevor, the model is pretty much standard with all manufacturers.
Hardest part was starting the first break, getting...
Changed the front tires yesterday.
The left front wheel had dry-rot in it so had to replace both wheels.
Was easier than I thought, no shmancy tools just a jack, an impact wrench and a lot of penetrating oil, only took about 15 minutes per wheel. The hammer mentioned in the tools photo was used...
Alas theory and practice don't always lineup, will have to jack her up about 7 inches to use this method. How much of a hassle is it to singlehandedly manhandle one of these into place? It didn't seem that heavy getting off the pallet and rolling around.
