What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I had hoped to look at the brakes and bearings. Also my driveway is on a slope, although I just re-shoed my parking brake and the rears are chocked, I want to be safe. The plan was to ratchet strap a carabiner to the tire and use it as a steady point for removal and mounting using an engine...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

My Dilemma. Due to the base width of the jack stand I can't get either Jack or stand under the leaf bracket. I had larger wheels in mind when I purchased the Sunnex jack stands. The smaller 10 ton model only has a max extension of 17 inches. Will the pictured arrangement work? Suggestions...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Wish me luck... Do I go to Valhalla if I'm killed in combat or by a combat wheel? Picked these up from Eastern Surplus and Equipment, thanks Bill Pease. Same size, different tread pattern. One of my front tires has dry rot. Darwin Award here I come...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Do I have to remove the light switch to access the ON/OFF switch? I can barely see the switch from below never mind getting one of my mitts on it, it's time's like this that I regret not having grandkids or for that matter kids... Also deleted a bees nest from the engine bay, now the rig smells...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

My Battery Switch is getting a little wonky, difficult to engage and cut out on me while on the road. I recently replaced my starter switch with a key ignition. Big Mike describes the starter switch as "ON-OFF-MOMENTARY SWITCH USED FOR THE IGNITION AND START IN 5 TON TRUCKS AND M998 HMMWV...

    Frothy Gear Oil - M813

I may have overfilled the transmission last time. My driveway is on a slight grade. The truck was pointing up hill when I filled it last. I'm pointing downhill now so if I fill it level with the port, that should be about a half knuckle when level? The diesel flush was pretty dark too. I've...

    Frothy Gear Oil - M813

While draining my Spicer 5 Speed the oil came out frothy. Is this normal? I had just done a short run, ran through the gears with the transfer case in neutral then drained the oil preparatory to a diesel flush. The oil also started draining from the filler port first. I checked for water with...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Membership in their Antique vehicle club gets you 100 miles of free towing...I thought they were kidding but it covered most of my M813 delivery cost.

    Fuel Filter or Vacuum Leak?

Think I figured out my problem. The bleeder valve between the fuel line and filter housing was wet with fuel. Took it apart and found debris on the petcock mating surface. Also the hard fuel line mis-fit the valve and the O-ring between the filter housing and bleeder valve was too large...

    Fuel Filter or Vacuum Leak?

New issue with my M813, she starts and runs fine then after about 8 minutes stalls out completely when I give her any throttle. Been running fine since I changed the fuel filter in October. Problem began after a run involving maneuvers that flexed the frame and sloshed the fuel tank. I let her...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Have you tried the Flux Capacitor? You'll need to be going downhill with a tailwind drafting an 18 wheeler to get her up to 88 MPH though...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I'm getting a little more cable every time I engage and disengage the brake. The old shoes were so worn out there was no thread left on the cable to adjust the bell crank nuts. Have just about enough room to try something I saw on Youtube Tactical Repair using heat shrink tape to "lock" the threads.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Re-shoed the parking brake. Removed the brake cable nuts and disconnected the bell crank spring. Removed hex cap bolt nut and washer, backed off the hex cap bolt and removed the whole assembly intact. Degreased, primed with Rust Fix and Rustoleum flat black primer. Removed the old shoed by...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Hope not, I removed the elbow and vacuumed them out...after I saw your post  :) Now I'm thinking about installing a drain cock for any future condensate.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

My rig came with a 3/4 inch draincock installed in the air intake pipe. I'm assuming it was a modification for squirting starter fluid directly into the air supply as it made no sense as a drain being mounted on the upper part of the air pipe. If there was that much "condensation" in my pipe I'd...
