Well the original one's were cracked and splitting at the connection points where the clamps were. The first "new" one's I put on were the actual OEM kit. I don't know if they were NOS or what, but they didn't last. I did not know that silicone rubber was permeable. Thanks for the info...

Just an update. I removed the locking hub guts again, removed outer axle nut and lock washer. Loosened inner axle nut all the way. Retorqued to 50lbs while turning wheel. Loosened and torqued to 50lbs again as per TM. Then loosened inner axle nut half a turn. reinstalled lock washer and...

yep, done that too. even changed the bulb sockets, changed back from the LED bulbs to the standard 194s, no change.

I just replaced the "flexible" circuit board on the back of the cluster a month or so ago with a brand new one. Cleaned the main plug and everything, and it was working fine at that time. And this time I plugged and unplugged it several times, making sure it was fully seated. I don't know...

I'm guessing the TM is wrong about torque on front bearings too? as in after final tightening to 50lbs, loosen to fit locknut on pin? probably should have backed off half a turn I'm guessing. just got wheels on and took it for a short drive, probably 2 miles, half on gravel road. was testing...
