    Fleet expansion: 1968 M62A2

Around here, salt isn't used much. DOT's will spread a de-icer the night before and maybe use sand. In my city, they only plow the main roads, if you live on a side street (like me) you wait for the sun. I'm not sure what my mechanic friend has in mind, he's been talking about getting a 5 ton...

    Fleet expansion: 1968 M62A2

There are a few extra switches that have been added in the cab, maybe one of them is for a heater. Wasn't able to inspect the truck before purchase, bit of a leap of faith, but the city said it was in running condition though w/o brakes.

    Fleet expansion: 1968 M62A2

It's been in use by a small city for some years...101k miles, I wonder what they've been using it for.

    Fleet expansion: 1968 M62A2

So, I bought a new, to me, A2 It's actually a 1968 M61A2. I'm posting here, because I really bought it for a friend - he a mechanic who will work off the debt doing stuff to my other A2. Neither one of us have room for 2 trucks, so, when he's working on my Deuce his truck will live in my...

    Oil & lubrication

I don't pretend to be an expert or even an enthusiast when it comes to petroleum, but for instance, synthetic oil is a thing now that wasn't a thing 60 years ago. Now, I'm not saying to use synthetic oil, just pointing at it as an example how technology has created something new. This is less...

    Oil & lubrication

Was recently reading up on engines and came across this: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/how-to-improve-mpg-of-lds-465-1a-engine.87915/post-1507272 See post #23 & 25. Now, there is some not-so-little bit on here about what oil to use, but most of those threads are 10+ years old, and...

    Need help finding unobtanuim part!

There are still places that will refurbish & rebuild these. If you have one near you, I'm sure they can sell you a spring. Do you have TM 9-2910-226-34? I believe they have part numbers for everything in the pump.

    12.00-20 psi

The manufacturer will have recommended PSI in their catalog. If the tires aren't made anymore, old catalogs are easy to find with a web search, though very old ones, 10+ years get harder to find. Or, find a tire similar and see what they recommend for that. For instance, look at the 12R20 XZL...

    PEASHOOTER's M109A3 CAMPER Build Thread

And, if you install them yourself, they're very cost effective. They're very easy to install too. If anyone's interested, I recommend this site: https://www.tapeease.com//products.htm Their customer service was very helpful. I sent them a simple drawing with detailed measurements, they cut...

Looking for a hydraulic head for a M35A2

This may or may not help, but some people have a spare engine for parts, so you may wish to expand your search and look for a complete spare engine. When I found a spare engine, the whole was less than what people charge for the pump. Just an idea.

    M35a2 deuce headlights

Didn't seem that way to me, I thought it a fair price. If you notice the seller carries a lot of military surplus. These lights went for something like $400/pair (list) back in the day (and I read a SS thread from 2011 where people were finding them anywhere from $200/pair and up), and they're...

    M35a2 deuce headlights

After reading your thread, I've decided to go with the devil I know. While I'm concerned with the longevity of the Truck-Lite, any suitable (I value performance more than price) light is still gonna cost. I ordered 3 replacement Truck-Lites. I like keeping extra spare parts of hard to find...

Am I gonna tear this apart?

Suppose it depends on how much off roading you're planning on doing. I'm also doing a deuce conversion and I opted to created storage above the cab while keeping the camper portion separated. I want to maintain the off road capabilities as much as feasible. I made a thread about it, under the...

    M35a2 deuce headlights

Bumping this thread because one of my Truck Lites failed on me recently. Model 07370, LED. I don't know how long they lasted as they were put in by the previous owner, but I got the impression they were installed maybe 5 to 8 years ago, which isn't great in my opinion for a pair that cost at...

Lock out hub damage - opinions

Thanks for this. I really didn't know what to expect when opening it up. It's one thing for someone to say, "these things aren't complicated", and they're not, but if you've never seen the inside... So, I laid several sheets of paper towel on the ground. The ball bearing had created an...

Lock out hub damage - opinions

In the first pic the casing is flush. In the 2nd pic you can see that the casing is pulled out a little, maybe 1-2 mm. In the 3rd pic the handle arrow is pointing to a place that is outside the normal arc where you would turn it. and the handle is supposed to turn freely inside the arc that is...

Lock out hub damage - opinions

Recently I had new wheels/tires put on and the hubs are far more exposed than they used to be. I had a shop install these almost 2 years ago. Due to my trust in them, the previous wheels having a center offset, and my never needing to adjust the hubs, I may have missed this if it happened some...

Which military truck is the most capable? Good survival vehicle?

Why go through the snow when you can go on top of it? They also make systems you can drive a wheeled vehicle onto, strap in, then take off. Should have included this, they make these things for bigger trucks too, so, put some on your MV
