New fuel tank looks good. I am sure that once you paint it, she will blend right into the truck and look like it came from the factory that way.
Keep up the good work.
I always enjoy seeing pictures of his truck. I just painted my zombie apocalypse truck a standard Marine Forest green, so it doesn't stand out as much. But some times I wish I painted it up like that.
Eastern Surplus does have a lot.....but expect to pay top dollar. They are really nice guys, but I choke every time I see the prices.
One very big piece of advise would be to take your time finding the right truck. I know a lot of people get really exceited trying to get their first truck, but...
No it cannot be undone. Once it is welded, you cannot unweld it.
Here is one done on a Toyota. Same thing pretty much (was just the first link that came up on google): How to weld your rear diff
Once it is welded, the only way to fix things is to replace the inners.
Yup all Canadian military manuals (as of the late 60's I believe) are both in english and french. Current manuals have one half of the page in each language.
Yes, technically, they are 3 color when they are newly painted. But a lot of the time when they were repainted, they were only painted...
If you don't know much about the trucks, try and get another SS member in your area to go look at it with you. Or maybe get some pictures and post them here for others to give you a general idea what you are looking at in work.
But yeah. Get it cheap or find another truck. There are lots of...
Sounds like a bad buy unless you can get it really cheap.
The "turbo diesel" is likely a standard multi-fuel diesel engine you find in most M35 trucks.
Unless you want to use it as an off road only truck, you will definitely have to replace the pumpkins.
Like clinto stated, people who usually...
They are painted a 2 color camo scheme that was used on many different trucks. Don't have the scheme, but it was pretty common. Just OD and flat black.
Don't really have any good pics. But here are some including that of the MLVW's (Canadian M35's) and M38's which were painted basically the...
Sadly no matter how well you button up the truck or a trailer they always find their way in anyways.
We pull apart and pressure wash our MKT's the same way. You find a lot of "stuff" when you pull the cabinets. No matter how hard you try, there is always something that falls on the floor and...
Welcome to our world. Can be very hard to restore some things due to the lack of info.
We also have a 1984 Canadian 5/4 ton with a 350 gasser (original engine, as the CDN military is really cheap when it comes to truck engines). They didn't get the diesel until later on when they bought the...
Might as well revive this thread again since it has been a year ;-)
Saved a 1976 5/4 ton from the scrap yard today. Is in pretty darn good shape for its age.
Main reason we saved it (other than it actually being pretty rare now a days) was that the truck is practically untouched/unmolested...
Good luck. Looking forward to your progress. It is a nice truck, and pretty rare to find one with the box on the back, as almost all have had them removed long ago. We have had a few of the old GMC's over the years but always sold them and regretted it every time.
Good job. Glad to see some other people out there posting these old manuals up for free. We post a lot of manuals for free on our website too in the hope it will help people out there.
We have been looking at getting an FV-434 one day. We are even scheduling a trip next summer to the UK to find...
