Absolutely. I’m a fireman we don’t quit easily. My plan was to document start to finish to hopefully help guide someone else. Because of this group I now have a unit that starts and runs perfectly. So I will pay it forward if I can. I will start a new thread once I have the parts and begin the...
@Ray70
Thank so much. Yes I have been reading everything I can find from him as you suggested. I just never saw anything about Power box,panel,breakers! I’m sure it’s there I just haven’t located.
@Light in the Dark
I have tested works as should. Just thinking no longer needed
@Ray70
Was thinking of mounting new box with breaker and connections. Possibly even moving the convenience plugs there as well with modern breaker. If doable.
Just trying to see how expensive this project will...
Does anyone know if I can reuse the breaker or have to install a new one. Seems like I seen a post talking about it being ran off the CT’s but can’t relocate that post? Just curious. Once I definitely decide I will start a new thread with questions about the process. Once successfully completed...
Thank you all. Doing some research as to what I think will be the best solution. I believe I’m leaning towards converting to single phase 120/240 only as I have no need for 3 phase. I’m trying to read all the post I can regarding converting and how to wire.
Thanks everyone for your help. I have reached out to the ad that @Light in the Dark posted. No response as of yet. As of now I seem to have a couple of options. Not really sure which way to go or scrape the whole idea and start over with maybe an appropriate running machine. If anyone has any...
@Chainbreaker
If you could that would be a great help. I’m not sure if I’m making this harder than it is. This is the first diesel motor I have worked on and first gen set I have messed with. I can do the work if I can figure out what I need to do connections wise.
@Ray70
Thanks Ray. I definitely need some items. Problem is I don’t know exactly what. How do I get in touch with you so I can get some parts on the way.
I believe I need to get at least the wiring for sure for the CT’s, breaker as mine feels weak and one terminal seems a tad loose, and possibly...
Thank you @Chainbreaker ! I was just reading that earlier. However I’m a little confused because in his case he is removing wires but I’ll have to add them. But to me it looks like the manuals use the 003 windings for illustration. Also I can’t find in the TM about where the 002 connects since...
@Ray70
Can you advise if you have the wire I need or if you can tell me what wire to use?
Also is there a wiring diagram specifically for the 002 showing the wire wraps?
Thank you both @Chainbreaker and @Guyfang! I will be looking this info up in the manuals and see what I can figure out. As far as adding the wire wraps back is there a certain wire I need to use? Do you know where I can find it? I’m assuming not at the big box store. I will also try to find the...
@Ray70 thank you for the input!!
@Chainbreaker
Good eye as I saw the two in the very front and two on top. Not sure why. Maybe it sat outside? The access door doesn’t seal well. Once I get it figured out I will fix that as well. @Guyfang pointed out the different stud nut on L1 that I hadn’t...
So the big Power wires from the breaker to the switch assembly and corresponding lugs seemed to be wired correctly. Looking at the back of the breaker from Left to Right the wires go L3to L3 contact on the switch assembly middle wire is L2 to L2 on the switch assembly and far right wire is L1 to...
@Ray70
That is correct testing directly at the lugs. I just tested 1-phase 120/240 L2-L3=84.9v
I do believe someone has changed out the an output box as well as the head unit with all the gauges.
@Ray70 @Chainbreaker
@jamawieb @Guyfang
Here are the readings from each lug in all three positions that I got this morning as I wanted to redo the readings to make sure that I had an order to follow and keep up with closely.
I did try to spray more contact cleaner on the switch assembly and the...
@Guyfang
Will do the cleaning and exercising the switch more.
alsoI mentioned up above that someone had wrote on the lug box a different configuration so that had me curious about the wiring.
See pic
They have it written
X L1 L2 N
Not sure why?
@Ray70
Is there a way to get to the contacts any better. Those are some small cracks? I’m also assuming the contacts runs the length of the grey housing?
@Ray70
Thanks for the info. I’ll see if I can locate that particular cleaner. I did exercise it with no change. I have no way of knowing if that’s it or not but to me it seems it’s capable of putting out power just not in the correct manner. Just didn’t know if this was an obvious problem to...
@Chainbreaker
I did remove the cover and inspect. I found a couple of loose connections but just barely. I cleaned all connections that I could with contact cleaner. Thanks for the photo. That how I plan to wire it once I figure out why not full output.
