That book is:
Fundamentals of Medium/Heavy Duty Diesel Engines
ISBN: 9781284067057
It's about 1400 pages total. Has a few paragraphs in it that are great when dealing with K&N air filter fanboys hahaha.
All diesels have far more valve overlap than gasoline engines, part of the reason why they are so much louder. Couple pics from the book are easier than tearing apart an engine to make a video.
As to headers, agreed there really isn't much of a point to them on a diesel when they respond so...
Being on a budget they are hard to beat. Plus if you ever have a problem they are cheap to replace.
Any particular reason you want the tanks inside, rather than mounted along the outside edges of the truck frame?
Good news, engine fired up again. Pleasantly surprised since I've seen just a small amount of gunk like that completely destroy newer injection systems.
Ideal at this point is that continuing to flush the individual parts (pump, injectors, hard lines between them) will hopefully get it operational again by just doing that. Being that the truck is used for parades/shows and I know it doesn't get many miles on it, so trying to keep the repair...
Fuel shutoff was the second thing I checked (check that there is fuel first), cover the easiest and cheapest things first. Moved freely and later tried it in multiple locations during starting attempts.
Removed the fuel line from the transfer pump to back flush it, then reconnect and prime it...
A functional M1070 HET for 15k nowadays or are you talking about initial auction price? Usually they go for 2-3 times that at auction or private sale.
Bear in mind I work on heavy diesel equipment/trucks. And you're far from the first person to want to make any of these trucks faster. For...
For starters the 16x20"s are only rated for 55mph and yes that rating is at maximum pressure/max weight but still a concern considering the weight of the truck. And I'm one of the people that's alright with pushing the limits on tires but 70mph on those is a really bad idea.
The axle hubs are...
The fuel adjustment is still the same threaded screw at the front base of the FDC.
The FDC is just the top part of the rear injection pump, it sits on top of the pump. All of the internals below the FDC are part of the pump.
With the air brake setup the hubs can't be flipped on m939/a1/a2, otherwise the brake drum is spaced too far out from the brake shoes and won't make contact.
If using the older 5 ton air assisted hydraulic brakes then yes those hubs can be flipped because the brake drum is attached to the end...
Considering that it's a 1 ton pickup, even at max load the m105 is well within the weight rating the truck can handle safely with trailer brakes. Swap the axle to one with brakes that the truck can operate, get the lights taken care of, and good to go.
Glad it's been fixed.
Personally I wouldn't bother hooking the FDC back up, all it does is try to keep the power level the same regardless of what fuel is being used. They also have a bad habit of dumping fuel into the engine oil when they have a leak. By leaving it bypassed the pump is more...
Probably going to be a few days before I get back out to the wrecker (had that pic on my computer).
Going off of memory with the valve bank the controls are setup from left to right while sitting in the operator seat:
Boom up/down
Winch cable
Boom extend/retract
Pivot right/left
Including the corners I was quoted at about $180 each (lock and corner set)
I'm looking for ones that can be tightened down, such as these. https://www.tandemloc.com/806000t-100 or https://www.tandemloc.com/t12000e Doesn't matter to me if it's a retractable lock setup, but being able to...
Did you open the fuel tank to check the pump?
What is the fuel pressure coming out of the in tank pump? When the engine is first started up, and when it begins to stumble/die.
