I sincerely apologize for the obvious inconvenience I have caused. I am removing the link because you are right about the rules. I feel like I am always walking on ice in this forum. It really does hamper one's efforts to become part of the community.
It is a turbo'ed 4 cyl. I read on another forum (for the life of me I can't find it now) it was ~300 cid as I mentioned earlier. A 5l 4cyl is going to be one torquey motor- but I doubt it has much of a top end. It probably came from a big generator or similar. Could be a backhoe or dozer I suppose.
That happens to me too. Also happens with text messages. I haven't figured out if it has to do with the diesel fumes or Scotch afterwards.
;) Sorry, I couldn't let that one pass...
Kudos, cjtroutt! One time a buddy of mine and I were out 'wheelin with my old CJ near Ft. Bragg...
I thought about the Cummins- its just they are so expensive. From what I have read, there is also a vibration problem associated with using them to power a vehicle. Not balanced well or something. I would like to find an engine on GL I could shoehorn into the Jeep. The GM 6.2 will fit in a CJ...
How hard is it to re-terminate the cable? The truck I just bought has a winch, but the hook/chain were separate. I plan on cutting the first few feet of rusty cable off (angle grinder??) re-greasing, and re-attaching the hook and chain assembly. What is the proper name for the small wedge and...
Does anyone have info on an Allis Chalmers model 7000 engine (not a model 7000 tractor)? I saw a couple on GL but can't seem to find any information on them. Are they forklift motors or generator power units?
I am looking for specs like physical size, weight, etc. I think I read somewhere...
Hi CARNAC-
I'm kind of new to the site and just bought a truck I would like to see if you can look up:
The seller (private) I bought it from said it was a '71 Kaiser M35A2 and had it registered as such. It has a winch. There is no manufacturer or date on the plate in the cab.
S/N...
Ok- I'm trying to put together a parts list for what I need to take back down for the truck recovery sometime in the near future. This is a quick and dirty- get me home quickly and safely so I can do it right list. I am having to work outside under a pine tree. Even electricity is hard to come...
Can someone tell me the NAPA part number for the wheel bearing socket? I know its 8 point, 3", and I know I've seen the number in a post somewhere. For the life of me, I can't seem to find that post. Is this socket one they carry in regular stores?

Hmmm... Am I getting into this hobby for the wrong reason? I was hoping to GET a girl by driving around an old army truck. (that and to annoy the Prius, Smart, and Leaf drivers at work- I want to get a bumper sticker that says "I bought this truck because my Hummer wasn't big enough")
Of...
Assuming I do just replace the spindle (plan for now), do I even need to take the brake shoes off? It looks like I should be able to just unbolt the 10 or so bolts holding the brake backing plate on and prop the whole brake assy up out of the way. As soon as I get her home one of the first...
I do tend to half @ss some things(or did with my jeep), but the idea of taking any chances on the steering of a 13,000lb chunk of 40 year old steel doesn't thrill me. My main thing now is just to get the truck home- after which I will definitely take my time and go through it all. Luckily its...
I definitely think the new spindle idea is the best. I could keep fighting with it, but there's always the chance I could warp it, especially if I heat it too much. It doesn't look like it's that hard to replace, gauging from an article I read on here about replacing the axle seals. I was...
I just got home from buying my first Deuce, '71 W/W! Sweet truck, seems to run well, man I love that whistler turbo. Just one small problem (I knew this going in)- I need to replace the front driver wheel bearings. Not a tough job right? Yeah, well things never go that way. Apparently when the...
Thanks for the input! I am hoping to go check it out tomorrow and see where it goes from there.
How does TN calculate the sales tax on a 40 year old vehicle? Our 10% purchase tax is high, but I prefer that to income taxes!!
I think I have found the answer to this in another post, but wanted to see if I can get some direct input.
I am talking to a guy in GA about buying a Deuce. I (As you can tell from my signature) live in TN. After talking to him, it seems like it's a pretty decent truck- a couple of small...
Thaks guys! The tips and pointers really help. I have driven diesels plenty of times, but never done much maintenance on them. I am hoping that a deuce would be as easy to work on as an M38A1/CJ. As long as it doesn't have a computer I ought to be able to figure it out!
