I've been Frankensteining parts from other trucks onto my M1114. So far the windshield, snorkel and tailgate are from a M1123 and the rear door blanks and soon to be mounted 2-man soft top are from a M1097.
Still need to deal with the swiss cheese holes in the frame and I need to source...
The serial number is only stamped on the data plate. Most of the time the data plate is in the door jamb, but depending on the series of truck, they can be elsewhere. My M1114 has the data plate mounted to the driver's side of the dashboard.
I will be attempting to get diesel for my HMMWV after work. Gonna need it to haul my generator around the property if/when we lose power. Rumor has it, gas stations are running out of fuel due to the approaching storm.
Yeah, I followed the previous instructions and got the tailgate off without much fuss. The only problem was one side had short bolts and the other side was longer, necessitating a deep socket to grab the nut.
Next step is to remove the muffler. TM's say I'll need to disconnect the driveline.

The tailgate currently has shims so it probably wouldn't need to be flush, but I agree I wouldn't be as structurally sturdy.
If I can get to the third bolt to remove it, I should be able to put it back on so that's what I'll do.
