I'm still hunting down parts to finish my truck and need help finding this. It is 1/4 inch solid bead, 1-1/2 wide, approximately .080 thick and appears to be made of military canvas. It goes between the panels of the hardtop to seal out moisture and keep the metal from rubbing together.

I believe it is called fender welting, as this looks very similar.

Do any of you know where to find this stuff made out of canvas for military vehicles?

We're looking for sources for the 51 chev too. I think it's similar material but says it's leather. Here's one of the links.

Did an "Images" search for fender welting then followed a few pictures to their main site. We should still chat about alternatives if that fabric style material doesn't show up.

You're so close to the finish line I can't help cheering a little louder. Good to see you back at it!

Why not have it made? Please note though I was only 5 or 6 I would watch my grandfather upholster chairs, couches my grandmother....well not my grandmother..but you get the picture. What it looks like to me is just sewn canvas with a cotton cord for the welt.

Edit I think the place I plan to use is Chicago Canvas can sell you the Duck canvas

After speaking with 1944mb this morning, I have decided to use rubber welting. He lives in a much more dry climate than I do and said he has some rust issues with the canvas welting on some of his vehicles. If he is having issues with the welting holding water, I'm going to have a much worse problem.

I'll report back on what I find and how it seems to work in place of the canvas stuff. Now on to hood lace and window channel.

Since we're shopping for alternatives I'll post the links to a few weatherstripping/ parts companies. We have a company close to me called AMP panels and they give up info on their suppliers.

http://www.ampauto.com/parts

Lots of options for companies across the continent......if anyone subscribes to one of these suppliers and had great service...we should talk about it!

http://metrommp.com/pages/Dealers/AllMakes.html

A lot of the products with Metro look specific to the car industry however if we can find crossover pieces, it makes things easier. Just found out an axle off the Ford tractor 4x4 4600 has an axle similar to the front axle of the GM. Parts/ seals, that silly spring assembly seal, etc. may still be available.

You're....ahhh...taking pictures....right?

Here's a selection of Metro moldings. http://metrommp.com/index.cfm

One other link I still need to search through. https://www.auveco.com/default.aspx

I forgot fender welting http://metrommp.com/index.cfm?f=part_list_by_type&Type=Fender Welt

It has been a busy year and I just realized it has almost been that long since I posted any progress. Progress has been slow, but I am back at it again.

Finally got the inside of the cab sanded and primed along with a lot of other parts and hope to paint inside the cab next weekend. The steering wheel still needs some help but I will get to that.

I plan to have the cab and chassis done before cold weather, but I think the cargo bed will have to wait until the spring. I believe I will also order a complete wiring harness from Vintage Wiring of Maine with turn signals and taillights added in.

The seats are waiting to be put in the cab. The seat covers came from Weebee Webbing and look great. The only recommendation I would make is if anyone orders from them, have them put longer rope in the lower seam so you can tie the covers down easier.

Those seats look nice. I take it you're not house broke and therefore forced to seat on the driver seat while watching TV ?? I'm sure OD is just around the corner

Cold weather got here early this year and I came nowhere close to achieving my goal, but got some more done.

I found this old paint on one of the window frames and thought my new paint matches the color really well.

These were in an old GMC truck catalog from the 50's and I found it interesting.

Your truck is looking good. Paint matches well.. I have had good intentions as well, but got absolutely nothing done. Time gets away from all of us.

The old gaskets were a mess so I brought the flange in for him to measure.

Should we start a thread where we can upload gasket templates?
