He won't get a straight answer because there isn't a straight solution. Depends on the state your carrier which person you call. I called progressive to try to insure mine and they said they absolutely cannot do it, then I happen to mention USAA and then the situation apparently changed, they said if you're a USAA member they have a special group that handles USAA policies under progressive and they could do it.
FYI mine is a 2007 MTV (the 6x6 version)

Thanks for the quick reply.
I already checked with Nationwide & Progressive, which I guess go through Hagerty for demil. I was told it had to be 20 years or older, and could not take it offroad. I'd hate to have the winning bid tomorrow only to find out I can't insure it.
Is it a matter of how I word it to the agent?
Do I need to register it at the DMV a specific way? I assume "RV" but this is my first experience with a demilitarized vehicle.
It will be used as a camper, include "offroad use"

Thanks again
I wouldn't worry about it. Never heard of anyone that has had to sell their truck due to inability to find insurance. Bid away. Figure it out later.

The winning bid was just over $36k. Pretty high for an auction truck, but not a bad deal when you consider the cost of a similarly capable/equipped truck. It makes me feel like my truck is an appreciating asset haha.
It definitely is. Especially when you have done tons of maintenance and upgrades such as we have and being a late A1R with all the additional upgrades over that 2006.... Honestly I expected that to go for a bit more but it's probably a combination of soft market, off-season, holiday timing, etc. And you know that's likely going to need tires immediately, still has the 100A alternator, every bit of rubber needs to be replaced, etc.

Also there's the auction fees which will bring it up past $40k immediately - $4,000 auction fee just based on the sale price. And transportation costs to consider if the buyer isn't driving it home.

Private party - after it gets tires and maintenance - likely wouldn't be less than $60k. Higher from a scalper.
