Thanks bud, you should hang out here more often, our attendance is currently on a slight decline via atrition.

Called a 3 flute spiral tap. Made to eject chips upward for doing blind holes. We’ll see what happens. Side betting pool forming for if the tap will break or if WildChild467 gets his briefs caught in the lathe chuck.

That tap reminds me of the drill bit on the front of the moon crawler in the movie Armageddon.
I normally don't come here since I don't own a 5 ton. Also it reminds me of all those years working at "IHC" on those dirty Semi-trucks that just got off the Freeway. ARGG !!! I just had a "flash back" of replacing bushings in a walking beam on a 100,000 Ibs trucks "Bogie" suspension !!!

All 12 now drilled and tapped. Possible install this weekend if offset striking wrench arrives in time.
You can take the u bolts off in about 30 seconds. Remove the lift bracket and there they are. Just chisel the cotter pins off and zap em off with an impact. Using a 1-1/2" 1/2" drive chrome socket you can get between the lower dog bone and the trunion to get the inner u bolt nut off. You dont even have to take the tires off.

Kinda of off topic, but are the ubolts on our trucks one time use? I know on pick ups you should replace ubolts when you un-torque them.
You should since they are cheap anyway. About 20ea to replace.

Considering future servicability, I purchased stainless #10-24 x 3” hex headed bolts, washers, and nyloc nuts, to use instead of cotter pins. Will lather them up well with anti-seize first. The cotter pins seem to seize and become non-removable for whatever reason. We’ll see if these fare any better.

In process now. All 6 rods off and 12 link ends pressed out. Offest striking wrench worked, no spring pack disassembly. Put it on and pulled it rearward with the forklift and strap. 2-1/4” end wrench pushed up by a floor jack. This job will make a man out of you, but it is going well with no issue.
