I was fortunate to find a steering box this weekend. Wasn't sure if it was going to be a problem having the ports for the assist cylinder but you can see that they are in parallel with the internal cylinder and the steering rebuilder that this shop uses says to just block off the assist ports. 5 turns lock to lock.

Have two saginaw dual piston metric boxes. They have the identical spline shape and count but just slightly too large in ID to work. Do all HF54 have the same size sector shafts?

I bought mine from active truck parts in Co Active Truck Sales and Parts, Inc. i seem to remember him asking me if i needed a 4 or 2 port box. It was priced right and i had them send me the pitman, arm frame bracket that i used to help layout the holes and steering shaft.

jdoktor83... yes it works good and it's fast. I learned that from an old timer who painted trucks.

m-35tom... I got a transmission thru a member here. The story is that it was a rebuilt one. I took the top cover off and from what I can tell it does look new . I would love to do the over drive mod but can't justify the cost right now

Anyone make a template for the new holes you need to make in the frame to convert to PS?......
Template?? Use the drawing below to make your own!
PM me if you need more details, or want me to e-mail the original version in bmp.

I believe the 54043 is also from a ford LN series truck. Not sure what the differences are. I've been looking all over for some sort of reference that lists the part# and design of each.
........................
The HF54043 is the same as the 050 I'm using, only it has 4 ports to be able to operate a hydr. ram.

gerhard, can you scan the drawing into a pdf file? then it can be printed out on a long piece of paper, users would just have to set their adobe program to 100% and use some 27" paper (or tape some togeather)

Tried my best, Tom: just found out how to convert the drawings into PDF files, using NITRO PDF READER... Still guessing how one should proceed to enlarge it to reach real size??? Please explain the trick.:???:

Not sure if I would trust a sheet of paper to transport critical dimensions onto the frame section in Q. Paper expands/contracts considerably depending the humidity. Or is there something else I'm missing?

For anyone interested, I can e-mail the original drawings in bmp (or their much lighter JPG versions) They all are made to scale 1pixel = 1mm so if you open it in MS PAINT it's only a matter of measuring with the cursor and convert to inches if preferred.
