67Beast, What color green is the truck in the last picture? I think that's the same color that my engine compartment is. Still new to the color schemes and names...

Thanks,

Beware - don't confuse colors with numbers. Today's Federal Standard is FS595B (it was adopted in 1989) - and there is a color 24087 listed in it. However, this is NOT the same COLOR as the Vietnam era 24087.

Before FS595 there was TT-C-595, which had numbers wtih 4 digits rather than five.

FS595 was adopted in 1956 and was the standard until 1968. Addendum 2 to FS-595 was made on May 9, 1960. With it colors 14087, 24087, and 34087 (Olive Drab) were replaced with X-14087, X-24087 and X-34087.

The applicable Federal Standard during much of the Vietnam war was FS595A (adopted in 1968).

Chg 3 to FS-595A was made on April 28, 1972 Colors 14050-X, 14087-X, 24087-X and 34087-X were introduced permanently to the standard and thus dropped the suffix "X".

Chg 6 to FS-595A February 1, 1980 issued a self-adhesive chip for 34087 to cover the "incorrect" shade included in the 1979 reprint of documentation.

Chg 7 was made to FS-595A, on January 1, 1984 was made. Colors 14087 and 24087 renamed to 14084 and 24084, 34087 renamed to 34088.

Chg 8 to FS595A was made August 30, 1984. In this revision Chg 6 was cancelled to prevent continued use of color designation 34087.

On December 15, 1989 the Federal Standard was revised, and became FS595B.

As can be seen here, the COLOR of FS595A 24087 pre 1984 is the same as FS595B 24084; FS595B 24087 is not the same COLOR as FS595A 24087.

Its no wonder so many folks complain that the paint they bought doesn't match their NOS parts.

HTH,
David Doyle

Best I can tell you is the 107th got it from an inactivating unit in 1996. Appears the data on the loosing unit is a dead end.

67Beast,

The 2/107 CAV is out of Kettering, OH. 2555 County Line Road, Kettering, OH 45420, (for whatever that's worth).

I'll show your pics at the unit in the coming days, and see what finer details they might have on your truck if you'd like.

I live/work close by and still have friends at the unit. I started my Guard career at that armory.

That would be great. I grew up just a bit farther south in Cincinnati and it's funny that the truck I bought up here in Michigan came from a place so close to home.

Hey medlog, any ideas on some of the history on this truck, 1967 M35 wo/w Ser# 012534271 with reg # of 4K8941. It had bumper #s of 2 107 CAV and HQ 79. I know that the 2/107 Cav is part of the Ohio National Guard and that it was at headquarters company as truck 79. But the truck was in Europe for a time as it has a Kaiserslautern Maintinace Center tag from 10/89 and the European lollypop lights on it. Here are a few picks of those items.
67 Beast,

I talked with a good friend of mine at the Kettering, OH (2/107 CAV) and showed him the pics of your truck. He e-mailed me back this response:

"_____just stopped by and I showed him the pic of the HQ 2-107 deuce.
He said it was assigned to the medical section."

I know it's not a lot of info, but it's something.

ok I've got a question for this thread, my bumpers outer markings are 28-228-BSB, i've done my home work and found they're a maintence company out of Scranton, Pa.

After digging through the first layer of paint, I've found new numbers 28-728-MSM, anybody know if this was the same unit, only changing call signs? It seems the truck number was the same throughout.

If someone can chime in, my curiousity is killing me.

I found results for a 28-728 MSB (Main Support BN) but not a MSM.

This may help:

Division Support Command (DISCOM), 28th Infantry Division (Mechanized)

ABN, thank you, you are right, i've been able to remove just enough paint on the rear to uncover 28-728-MSB. I appreciate your help!!!
no problem, I just noticed a typo on my original post I meant 28-728 MSB not 29-........ I must have fat fingered that one.

Since this is related to bumper markings, I'll post my question in this thread.

We had a fellow firefighter in our county, serving as a Reserve Marine in Afghanistan, pay the ultimate price on 8 August 2010. His remains made the final trip home yesterday, and will be laid to rest tomorrow.

I painted my deuce last year in Marine Forest Green and it does not have any unit designations right now. I would like to honor his service by painting his unit's numbers on my M35A2 and M105 trailer. His unit was: Company D, 4th Combat Eng Battalion, 4th Marine Division.

I have studied TB 43-0209, but would like confirmation from the knowledge base on Steel Soldiers, before I proceed with cutting the stencils.

Would this unit number be: IV 4CEB-D

could you maybe point me in the right direction, so i can find out a bit of history on the old boy..
For serial and registration number histories, you need to go to that thread and thoroughly read post number 1 concerning what you need to do. Photos are not allowed. There is a reason for that.
