Changing the rear springs on my M1031

FWIW

I am changing my rear spring on my 1986 M1031

Using Dayton Made in USA springs 22-617HD, (10 Leaves, 4,650 lbs capacity - my opinion it is always better to have more capacity.

ORD Rear SuperShackles Direct replacement size.

ORD greasable rear suspension bushings: greasable bolts with greasable poly bushings.

ORD Ubolt Reversal Kits.

Sent everything out to get powder coated flat black.

Do they have the over load spring on top like the stock ones? If so, you may have clearance issues with the U-bolt flip and the bump stop, if your not lifting the truck.

No there is no overload spring, the overload spring that GM put on are the same that where used on DRW civilian trucks.

The pack thickness is 4-3/8 inches for the 22-617HD springs

I am installing them in a spring shop, have available tooling and material to manufacture u-bolts on site

What did you do for front springs?
My plan is;

Dayton (Made in USA) Front Springs 22-402HD
4 Leaves Full taper.
Pack Thick - 1-15/16" , Spring Capacity at Pad 1,900 lbs
Add the Dayton Tapered Extra Leave - 22-402XL
This will add 500lb of captacy

This will be a total of 5 leaves with 2,400lb total capacity per spring.

I have new springs on my M1008 and the front is a factory type 4 leaf set up. Thank gawd the 35's smooth out the ride.....

Which brand of spring did you installed?

Is the main spring a regular wrap eye or a reverse wrap eye?

Would you recall the part number of the spring?

Weight capacity?

To be honest I really don't know. A local spring shop ordered the factory 3 leaf set up for a diesel and then added another leaf if I remember correctly. The front springs barely have a negative arch now. I can take a pic of it tomorrow when it's daylight.....

The 22-617HD part number has popped up before as a Dayton number. I can't recall the exact conversation but it was inferred that there is a chinese equivalent of the same PN that is inferior. I need to do springs on my V30 but fear getting a copy of the 22-617HD.

Mind sharing what powder coating cost on those parts ?
2 rear springs; 20 pieces, 4 brackets, 2 ORD SuperShackles, 4 ORD front hd shackles, 2 ORD Offset 1" Zero Rate Add a Leaves , Ubolt Reversal Kit; 4 u-bolts, the 2 plate and 6 rivets

All sandblasted to bare metal and powder coated flat black

cost was $400.00

Go to a local Dayton Spring Dealer, that is what I did as I had the same concern as it appears all spring manufactures/sellers use the same part numbers.

The Dayton Springs are manufactured in Harrisburg, PA - I spoke with Dayton Tech Support

There is also a Dayton Factory Sticker / Label on the Springs

FWIW I took the factory stickers off can post a photo if you would like.

Got busy with work yesterday..... here's the pics of my 4 leaf set up on the front with a 35in BFG KM2. As I previously mentioned, if it weren't for the 35's the truck would be unbearable to ride in. It had 33's on it when I got it out of the spring shop and the ride was unbearable.
