clutch disc variations ?

got my ebay disc in and i noticed it doesnt have springs in the center, where some of them have springs, what is the difference and is there a more desirable one over the other?

The springs are to take up slack in your shifts.

Your clutch should either be in or out, no slipping. If you have been driving a clutch for a long time, you should be fine without it.

My question is, is that for a 5ton? I'd check to see if it fits your tran's input shaft asap.

Unsprung hub clutches have a much harsher engagement but like stated above if you know how to drive a manual well you will be ok

So what are the pros and cons of each disc? With springs and without springs. The one I just put in my truck 2 days ago is ceramic and has springs.

Sprung clutches are easier to drive and not as harsh when they grab. Unsprung clutches can not have a spring failure. Unstrung clutches have a more positive feel to some people but that is debatable. Sprung clutches also can reduce shock on drivetrain when trying to shift quickly. Basically they are both good and will both get the job done but the sprung clutch is easier to drive if you are inexperienced.

I swapped out my sprung style disc to the one pictured above. I concur with what is being said, the engagement is a lot "choppier"

I notice it most while in reverse trying to maneuver the truck for parking. That being said the extra clutch puck on the new disc should provide more support. I am also a fan of simplicity. I just try to keep the clutching to a minimum and not half press the peddle.


I changed the clutch out using the same method, used a good alignment tool and the job went well.
