CUCV turbo and nv4500 swap

Believe me, I've read every forum out and there are plenty of different ways to go about it. Everyone seems to have their opinion of "best" but the best for me looks like a 6.5 turbo set up. Which I picked up for 200 bucks and the turno is good. They are out there, you just have to always be looking. The NV4500 is going to be fresh rebuild so it will be pricy but I want a nice, reliable work horse. I have a couple questions I haventb found anywhere else.

When running the oil return from the turbo and using the small block block off plate, do you just leave the mechanical fuel pump hanging or are all of these guys swapping to electric? I want to keep the mechanical pump. Going to stay away from computers.

I've read about different bellhousing options. Everything I've read, guys grind down the starter nose cone or grinding on the bell housing. Does the Advance Adapters housing clear the 24v DD starter?

I have about half of my parts compiled with the nv4500 in the process of being built. The bell housing is the last piece I might need to order or hunt for. The pedal assembly will be easy to find. Everything else I'll be picking up from the parts store. Anyone that's done this with some insight?

You can't have the block off plate and the mechanical pump, they occupy the same place. You'd have to add a drain to the oil pan to keep the mechanical pump. I went electrical and the stock 6.5 oil drain plate.

I will probably just add a drain to the oil pan. I don't mind the cost of the electrical pump, it's more about the vision I have of what will be "right". What did you do for a waste gate? Exhaust size?

The turbo has an internal wastgate. Did a single 3" exhaust from the turbo to in front of the rear axle.
I have found a manual adjustable waste gate online so you can fine tune the boost. Some of the turbos work off of vacuum and supposedly draw back boost in higher rpms.

I've got a 96+ chevy nv4500. I've read that you have to have a factory bell housing for that transmission or you have to order one.

Ah you were referring to making it adjustable? I cut open the stock one, threaded the rod and tightened it down with the stock spring. I'm around 10 psi max

Yes exactly. Did you use 6.5 head gaskets? I'm probably going to do the turbo and transmission at the same time so the plan is to pull everything. Seems like an easy time to go ahead and upgrade head gaskets.

If using stock head bolts, don't go high on boost. Head gaskets start to pop at 15psi. If you plan on going high boost, you need head studs.

This is true. AA makes a bellhousing but it doesn't have a boss for the pivot ball linkage if you choose to go that route. They offer a bracket to install the ball.

Price isn't a problem if it's the right wayou to do it. But the bell alone is $400. If I still have to swap to a different starter or grind down the nose cone, I'd rather just find a factory one and be in it dirt cheap.

Never pulled the heads. I'll cross that bridge when it comes lol

Ehh, I've run my civy truck with a 6.5 up to 13ish psi often (1200* on pyro) and have had no issues. If you get into any performance stuff, my truck came with a lot of Heath diesel and Leroy diesel products on it.

Everything I'll be using will be GM parts or remanufactured parts. Running that kind of heat, I hope you have the HO water pump atleast.
