Dually conversion done simple on the cheap.

Is the cucv D70 a d70hd?
Will the locker from the cucv D70 fit a D80?
Just how wide is a dually D80?
Is the D80 a lot more animal than a 14 bolt?
I know I hammer in with a lot of questions, but I hate that "I should have..." stuff.
There's a D80 with 4.65 gears out of a 78 motorhome on Craigs, I asked how he I.D. it, as I couldn't find a 4.56 D80.
There is a cucv D70 as well. Neither at all close.
A 14 bolt, C&C with 4.56 would be easiest.
Wish I could pull one out of a cucv, then it would be bolt and go. ****, I'd swap my m1008 rear for it, tho I doubt it's valued as high.
No matter what I do, I'll need 2 more tires and a set of rims.

If so, I think the locker would fit?
It also says all D60's had a Trac lock too...
Axles
All axles full floating. Front axle on all variants is Dana 60 with Spicer Trac-lok (limited slip) and locking hubs, ratio: 4.56:1.
Rear axle on M1028 and A1: 10.5 inch Corporate 14 Bolt with "No-spin/Detroit" differential locker.
Rear axle on M1028A2 and A3: Dana 70HD, w/ Detroit Locker, Ratio: 4.56:1, Ratio: 4.56:1

That doesn't sound like a description of M1008 axles, but rather 1028s only.
Either way, if the part number for a Detroit Locker is the same for a 70/70HD/80, which is easy enough to check, then they'll fit all three.
But do you really want a Detroit in a relatively light and short vehicle that would be used for "heavy" towing?
 
If anyone is interested in the D70 cucv take out, or d80 w 4.56 gears let me know, I'll send the links to you.
I found a, after a week of unanswered calls, very nice 14 bolt, C&C axle with 4.56 gears. Guy sounds decent and runs a wrecking yard. 14k miles, and was driven on Sundays to church, actually, driven to plow and salt at a church. Also has rims and a np205 pto. All together $450. Not sure how much the booster springs might add.
Wish I had the time to jump on those other axles and make a few bills, oh well.

Now, anyone know where to get the ubolts to mount it up.

Any spring shop can make those up for you. Also they can sell you helper springs, bumpers, hardware etc.
I don't think I've ever noticed any Spring Shops before; but then I haven't been looking for them either (which might explain everything).

Are these Spring Shops common in any large metropolitan area?

I'll have to ask at a hydraulic shop...
Seriously though, big truck dealers, maybe u haul, etc would know. Possibly the 4x4 shops and builders, Snow plow installers?

OK; I got you. The "big truck dealers" idea is a great one; if you need it (whatever "it" is), then go to a truck repair shop and ask them, and then THEY can point anybody to the specialists. That makes sense, thanks!

For what it's worth I've done 3 chassis cab conversions and on each one, I took the Detroit NoSpin out of the original rear and installed it in the c/c axle.
