Duals on M929A2

Is there a tire/rim configuration (size and weight capacity) to dual up the rear of an M929A2 and have the same rev/mile as on the fronts ?

With a load, I want more stability than the 14.00 is giving me.

I have 4 flat spots on the rear Goodyear's that makes things even worse.

You can switch to 11.00x20 or 12.00x20 all the way around but what I think you are asking is can you keep the 14.00x20 tires in front and dual the rear, and that can be done also with 11.00x20 rear and 365x20 front, there are other combinations but that is first to come to mind.

Not necessarily keep the 14.00 but I do want to stay with the wider flotation fronts. Maybe 395 but even then they are a couple inches larger diameter than the 12.00r20.

Loaded, I'm not as stable as my 817 was. And if I went back to 11.00 (don't really want to), I would need the 365r20 front, which doesn't fit the industrial rims.

Yeah sorry wasn't fully awake meant to say 365x20. Also if you put a 365x20 with the beadlock in a 5 ton combat rim it won't ever come out, regardless of a degree or two of bead angle.

On Michelin's tire chart, there is a 375r20 that has the same r/mile as the 12.00r20. I bet that is impossible to find, especially surplus.

Also the M939 series trucks can have a slight different size front to rear as they don't have the auto Sprague of the older trucks, it won't be engaged unless you are in slippery stuff and engaged it.

How is that working out for you? They look about the same...but not quite.

Didn't you know where there is a surplus of the 12.00's on rims?
I havent swapped completely yet. Feltz has the tires in WI for 140 each and wheels are 60ea. He removes the run flats

The 12.00s will even fit on the old split ring wheels with tubes if you didn't want to have to stud swap and crap

Is that on a tubeless rim? I know it's thicker due to being aluminum. Is it the same otherwise, width and spacing between tires?

I just bought 395 XZL's from Feltz.

Rim is thicker requires 5in studs. Its a tubeless and just a beadlock just reversed on the face bolts

The 12.00r20 dual doesn't happen to get wider than 8'6" does it?

Would those rims mount 395's ? I bet that combination would get over-width and maybe touch.

Its only 2inch on each side outside of your 395 width. You can see in the one pic facing from the rear you can see the 395 in front of it and those 1200s were not snugged up.


Dual 395s are possible. About $2000 per axle for tires, studs, lug nuts, wheels, and spacers. It puts it at like 8ft 8 wide all together.

I though those rims were the splits simp? Obviously not as I can see a ton of rim studs. Are the 12r20s available "new" like the 395s are? That may be something for me to consider since I'll have the 20' ISO container at nearly max height, so this may end up helping with stability if I feel I need it.

Yes the G272s are available new as well as 12.00 XMLs. The aluminum ones in the pic are just like your combat wheel just the bolts are turned around. You can put tubes in the G272s and XMLs and run the stock tube type split rims.

Is there steel rims we can use? I don't particularly care for using Alum rims on something I have heavily loaded. This definitely opens up some options for me. I like the SuperSingles but I doubt that I'll like them as much with a fully fitted container house on the back of the truck.

The aluminum Hutchinson beadlock dual type wheel is capable of 18000lbs each. X 8. With the G272s in dual config they are rated at 7600lbs ea x 8 plus the 22000lbs of rating the front 395s give you.

The dual type wheels are used on the maxxpro wrecker which is heavier than your M934 with its original box unit as well as its meant to wheel lift another vehicle

I also included pics of the 485 XZLs on a maxx pro wrecker rear with 395s on the front. The 485s are rated at around 16500lbs each.

Well I guess if they're rated for that much it'll do me just fine, not sure what Toby's intended weight will be, but I'm guess mine will be close to 35k in the rear. Only real downfall to using the smaller tires will be my reduced speed on the highway. I'll have to figure out another way to improve that, 55 on flat ground is just plain ridiculous.

And those are the rims that you were saying we'd have to change to the longer lug nut studs, right? I'm sure that won't be easy to do.
Those are some truly MASSIVE tire's lol
