Gen 2 Light not working but charging?

I have searched and read some threads on Gen 2 light but couldn't find
My problem.
Unfortunately a lot of the thread links in a particular thread don't work anymore.

Anyway, last couple of mornings I noticed the Gen 2 light not coming on with the key om
My M1028A2.
However the volt meter read upper green when running.
I have checked with VOM and have 28.4 Volts across both Batteries.
With the engine off, key on I have 24,8Volts at both wire on the two pin Alt. 2 connecter and same voltage
At Alt 2 power stud.

Truck apparently charges fine. Have had no issues with charging other than No Gen 2 light?
Have also cleaned the bulb contacts, but haven't checked the bulb because I thought if the
Bulb was open(burnt out) it wouldn't charge?

Could it be a bad bulb and still Charge?
Thanks
Tom

Thats tricky. I have a CUCV M1009 with no cluster at all in it and it charges fine. I am not sure about how all that works. I know I have had some with the same issue you have and they charged fine. I am not an electrician far from it. But if it ain't broke don't fix it. It would bug me though why the light is not working. I would have to fix it and dive head first into it. Probably a simple fix when you find it.

Some regulators don't need the light in the circuit to turn on. Check the bulb. The voltage at each battery should be about 14.5.

Thanks for the replies.

Gen 2 light came on this morning, but failed to relight later upon start.
Still normal charging.
If and when I find the problem I will post back.

I was told to ground the white wire going into the double plug of the voltage regulator. That should make the light illuminate if the bulb/circuit traveling to the bulb is good. I will try that when I get home. Old thread and I have the same issue. NO Gen 2 light but charging just fine. I did get to find the reason the stereo quit working last year. It was unplugged. good reason. We are back up and rocking. just like to figure out the Gen 2 bulb. Have a great day. More progress on my M1008 project tonight.

I have never really found the cause and frankly haven't looked at it any further.
On first start up in the morning or if truck sits more than eight hours or so
All dash fault lights, including Gen 2 come on.
Starts and charges normally.

Anytime truck is shut off and restarted Gen 2 light stay's out, but starts and charges.
After an extended period of sitting or next morning Gen 2 light will light and we start
All over again.
Thanks
Tom
