Steel Soldiers now has a few new forums, read more about it at: New Munitions Forums!
I had no major issues. Shortly after I left the transmission started slipping out of gear, So at the one roundabout I stopped at the 7 eleven gas station and added a quart of transmission fluid. From there I had zero other issues. I probably should have added that quart before I pushed out as she was acting up when we went shooting.Great pics Jonathan, you get home ok?

That "roll call" shot you took (dead center of your pics) is terrific. It's nice to be able to see the whole line-up. Thanks a lot for that (and the other shots)!Well here are some of the photos I took
I gave them to you to keep, I treat them as a one time use item. They can be reused if your very careful with loading and removing the spent casings, but because they're so simple to accidentally to bend I don't plan on getting multiple uses out of them. If I do than great I just don't count on it. They are sold dirt cheep at the local gun shows and I buy them like 50-100 at a time. I get them like 5 for $1 so the cost of the envelope and stamp almost cost more than for me to purchase replacements any way.Speaking of shooting I realized when I got home I still had your half moon clips in my pocket. PM me an address and I will get them back to you.
Rick
Well technically it's not everybody in that shot. Some people did not park there vehicles in the line up.That "roll call" shot you took (dead center of your pics) is terrific. It's nice to be able to see the whole line-up. Thanks a lot for that (and the other shots)!
I don't know the M1917, but that sure looks like a revolver barrel in the vid, and there's clearly no slide beneath it. Am I mistaken? Because how are you using clips in a revolver? I'm sure I''m missing something here (and believe me I'm no handgun scholar or anything). To show my point here is a defensive shooting match I did with my M1917 with brand new moon clips. I was in a rush when loading them and ended up accidentally slightly bending a bunch of them. You can see me really struggling to pull the trigger in double action because of it.
Moon clips allow you to fire rim less cartridges like .45 ACP in a revolver chambered in a rimmed cartridge like .45 long colt. Also makes loading much quicker on swing cylinder revolvers.I don't know the M1917, but that sure looks like a revolver barrel in the vid, and there's clearly no slide beneath it. Am I mistaken? That was some nice shooting by the way, especially on the steel targets.
I'm impressed also that you didn't use some choice expressions in your fluent French when you first encountered the chambering trouble in the first few shots!
Cabell,I have been collecting photos in addition to the ones that I took during the event.
I posted them to my facebook page this afternoon....
I have 378 photo posted so far... (so don't look for me to post them here...).
They are located at:
https://www.facebook.com/cabell.gar...0210128133030545.1073741955.1554695295&type=3
I will eventually post them to the event website, but that might take some time as I need to rework that site and I have other demands on my time...
Yes it is a revolver. When I say clip I mean an actual clip and not a magazine. When the US entered WWI they needed a lot more sidearms, so they decided to put out a contract for revolvers. They also wanted ammunition compatibility between the M1911 and the new revolvers, so they had to be chambered in .45 ACP. The issue with that is of course is revolvers use the rim of the cartridge to headspace off of while .45 acp is rimless. The solution by S&W was Half Moon clips that held 3 cartridges together and the clip would act like the rim (Now a days they also have full moon clips which is what I uses). S&W also relized very early that they could cut a shoulder into the cylinders that the case mouth could rest on which works in a pinch if you don't have any clips, though the ejector has nothing to work against so each case has to be pried out by hand. On mine unfortunately or fortunately depending how you look at it, at some point had the shoulder drilled down so it can take .45 LC, so I can only use .45 acp with moon clips. Here is a picture of mine with two moon clips of .45 acp, while the cylinder is loaded with .45 LCI don't know the M1917, but that sure looks like a revolver barrel in the vid, and there's clearly no slide beneath it. Check out this link, it is a 25 minute video but the guy goes into a very good explanation of that particular pistol. I get it. Sort of a speed loader. Thank you to all for the clarifications.Check out this link, it is a 25 minute video but the guy goes into a very good explanation of that particular pistol. And the half and full moon clips.
Yep, you have to be on FB to see them...Cabell,
The Facebook link seems broken. Maybe it's my computer firewall, but I can't find that page. Maybe one has to have a Facebook account? I don't book my face...

Sorry to hear about your dad, Rick. I know ya missed me, and I will do my best to make it up to one of these again before the .I will get my pics up tomorrow I hope. My Dad passed on Friday morning and I got the news delivered to me while I was there so been pretty busy since I got back. Pics will make it here though.
That's even got a name now:Hi Don! Yea, I was talking to the wife about you. Was also telling the guy that is in your camping spot about all the neat little things you had to make camping such a leisurely thing. As you can see we have moved into the luxery side of camping although I am going to rebuild my truck camper. this RV is just too big for this kind of a deal.
You must have seen Bob's and ours campers!
