Anybody have any insight on how to stop the motor from turning over so I can get the pulley and balancer bolt off thank you
Post #18 shows a simple tool to keep the crank from turning. Just a couple of bolts and a bar. Just about anything will work.

So has anybody else had the wrong size bolts holding the crank pulley on?

I took out metric fine thread bolts. Noticed the threads were chewed up a little. I tried to thread them into my new balancer and they wouldn't go. So I started trying other hardware and a 3/8 x 16 bolt fits perfect. Even though the TM calls for a metric m10x1.5.

Has anybody else seen anything like this?

I can't get the other 2 out yet I sprayed them with some wd40 and try tommorow I can't get the other 2 pulley bolts loose I just get turning the engine over I will let you know when I get the other 2 out. And the fine thread bolt is chewed up on the end

Your welcome for the link, but that is not my post and I never said to use a 2x4 to put the balancer back on. In fact I said I would NOT do it and why I made the tool I posted a picture of to install the balancer without hammering it on.

I got my truck all done yesterday. I was really surprised how swollen, rotted and degraded the rubber was on the old one. I used the KD tools puller to remove and install. I'm gonna get some pictures up of the new and old balanced and how to use the tool.

Ok some pictures. As you can see the rubber on my balancer was shot. See the swelling and the cracks? A couple pictures are shots of how the KD Tool 2291 was used. It worked great and was affordable. The one end of the tool had a standard end for pulling with, the other end was a hex head SMALLER than the threaded shaft, which was 16X1.5 thread so it threaded into the crank for pressing the balancer on. I just turned the silver rectangle piece with a adjustable wrench. I stacked a few washers up and greased them to reduce friction. P1040536.jpgP1040545.jpgP1040541.jpgP1040543.jpgP1040535.jpg

I got my new harmonic balancer on and put my truck back together but my crank pulley is still wobbling what else can cause that it didn't seem bent or anything.

The pulley is most likely bent. I would get a new pulley if it was my truck. I'm not sure if it can do any damage to the motor as is but I wouldn't risk it.

I hear Saturn Surplus had them. It should be the same as a civilian motor. Get the part number from the TM and Google.

Did you try the classifieds here? Post a want ad, I'm sure somebody here has one.

Keep in mind too, Keith_J posted this a while back in another balancer related thread, kinda makes sense.

" Once you pull the pulley, you will see why it can run off center, it is bolted to the damper hub with 4 bolts. If you loosen the bolts with belt tension, it can pull the pulley off axis. Or, in other words, it can be slightly adjusted."

Worth messing with a little bit.

I am replacing the harmonic balancer on my M1009 6.2l. I will use a new bolt. The GM 6.2l manual says torque to 150ft lbs. The military manual says 200ft lbs. Which is right?
