Help with a couple auction pics - name that part...

I'm working to ID and evaluate some gov planet trucks I want to bid on. I kind of know what to look for on general condition, but I"m new to HMMVW's and don't really know when to be concerned when I see a part laying around or something that looks "off". Here's a pic of a disconnected/hanging harness. The truck is very clean, starts/runs fine per description and video, but this doesn't look right. Maybe something they reconnected before starting it? Anything to be concerned about?



Here's a pic from another really clean truck. Looks like a loose bracket laying on the floor. I see loose parts sitting in a lot of these trucks, so I'm not too concerned, but just curious what it is and whether it might indicate a problem with a critical system being disassembled

Looks like the harness for the light switch as some of the screws are not in the dash switch.

2nd one is a battery hold down as the batteries are under the passenger seat.

Thanks for the quick response. I was thinking possibly lights given the locaton, but the auction says that all lights are operational. Probably a mistake on their part. Maybe they plugged it in and then checked the lights. Either way, probably not a show stopper but maybe indicative of a problem someone was troubleshooting at some point. The battery hold down was my only guess on the 2nd pic given the location right next to "24v", thanks for the info.

The plug is the turn signal unit that goes on the steering column, for some reason all the trucks are missing it and the 3 lever light switch…no idea why.

Probably a little more research, or just low ball a couple really nice trucks to make sure I understand the mechanics of the auction process.

When I get ready to bid for real, I'll be dangerous for sure. I've got more $ than brains. I don't actually have that much $, but I'm willing to get a little stupid once I get things figured out.

In all seriousness (I wasn't really bidding on any trucks now) I would hold off until some nicer trucks emerge. The ones on auction have been quite rough compared to six months ago.

Since there are still lots of trucks in the system that use that turn signal arm, and that arm goes bad often, who do you think might be interested in taking one?

That POS turn signal switch is the most fragile piece of equipment on the HMMWV! Whenever I go to a show where the truck is open for inspection it's the first thing kids grab and yank around. Why they kept using it is beyond me.

That's a shame. I remember when a new truck (40's 50's vintage) arrived at the shop, we would rip out the military lights and switches and wiring. Everything was rewired with new switches and a new Signal Stat turn signal switch. Those parts would get dropped into a 55 gallon drum. Hate to say I don't remember what happened to them. Might have been the scrap dumpster for all I know now...
