Good morning all,

I have finally acquired my first genset. She is a trailer mounted 005AAS, with the acoustic supression kit. 483 hours on the clock

I am starting to work out the bugs and “pretty her up”, so I will be looking for parts.

firstly, what is this goo? (See picture

I would like to convert the oil filter and fuel filter housings to accept a spin on style. I have found what I need for the fuel side, but not oil. Any suggestions?

The ammeter is showing as not charging, verified with a DMM. I will need to find an alternator if one of the fuses check out, or source a rebuild

Governor/ throttle control cable will need replaced

The Fault indicator panel is completely inop, so that will require some digging to diag and for whatever reason the stop-run-start switch becomes inop for a short time after a ride down the Road. Interesting bugs

The M200A1 trailer she sits on is pretty rough in my opinion, so I’d like to source an alternative single wheel trailer if anyone has suggestions.

Is that black goo also found up in the control cube, under the voltage regulator?
It looks like the potting material that often "Melts" out of the voltage regulator, accumulates in the control cube and then leaks through and drips down below.

Also, for your fuel adapters, take a look here:
I make fuel filter adapters that will bolt right in place of your existing housings with no brackets or adapters needed.
Thay are more expensive than some of the Asian made crap available, but they won't crack when you tighten the fittings, like the others do!
And no adapter bracket to fabricate.
As for the oil filter, you can probably find a remote filter kit at any speed shop like Jegs or Summit Racing that would work, since the original filter housing is already fed by hoses.

I figured the oil filter would go something like that route, do you have any idea what thread the hoses are that feed that housing?

Also, have you found the Technical Manuals for it? If not, the latest editions are located here, just go to the top of this screen & select TM and find your model.

There are lots of very informative threads from days of old here on SS. Just use a good search query for what you're looking for and they should come up.

Also, Guyfang & other members have some good experience with your model that I'm sure will share soon.

I would make replacing that trailer a low priority... it doesn't look that bad to me at first glance. But it depends if you are going to just park it on property, or tow it frequently.

Thank you, trailer is low priority for sure.
Getting all the quirks and kinks worked out of the genny is the most important part, then I can move further into prettying it up

When you do searches, via the magnifying glass icon top right of screen, be sure to use something like "MEP-005a" and select "This Forum". You will get lots of hits that way. If you needed to search for anything related specifically to the Acoustic Suppression Kit itself, then you would append on the "AAS".

Also, for searching for specific issues like if you are interested in finding details on just the voltage regulator do a search on something like "MEP-005a Voltage Regulator" & see what comes up.

Tip: You can always add on more search additions if what you are looking for does not come up. Start with pertinent descriptions & broaden out later... it will save you time of not having to read through the threads that do not apply to your specific issue.

Its not a VR, its the A1, known as a "Thermal Watt Converter."

Have you downloaded the TM's? The MEP-004A and MEP-005A are same, same. Just a few more jugs on the 005.

Get some batteries charged up and then we can do some troubleshooting. This is a wonderful gen set. I hate the ASK, but thats from working on too many of them in the dark!

Please take a boat load of pictures, good ones. Maybe we can see things you do not know about.

Do not worry about the A1 for the time being. Set runs fine when the A9 has a melt down.

Welcome to the Outfit!

You have already got the guys talking that have forgotten more than most of us will ever know about Gen Sets. Happy to see that you have already downloaded the TM's (Technical Manuals) for your machine! There are flow charts "in them thar books" that will help you troubleshoot.

As far as the trailer is concerned, it should have a data plate on it that will give you the information to gather the TM's for that too. Everybody has an opinion - but I like your trailer. It is plenty beefy to haul the generator and room for spare fuel too.

Again, welcome to the group and don't forget to upload plenty of good high quality pictures.

In general, those pictures show you have a nice unit, at least looking at the inside wiring & components thus far!

Take some additional pictures of the engine area & Mfg's placard if it is still in place (year of unit?). Also, other areas such as radiator, batteries, etc. Good pictures along with "all the SS eyeballs" looking them over can be very beneficial.

The oil filter housing is giving me a fit trying to get it to seal, but thank you! I will snag some pictures of everything else tomorrow! I can add some photos of the placards that the original owner sent me for the time being. The engine placard photo is a bit rough, I will have to get a better one tomorrow.
