Seems that most are found in junk yards, I have read that some bread trucks had them.

82-87 GM square body pickup suburban or blazer with diesel and overdrive (82 was the first year of the 700R4... I think). Not just half tons, they were also used in 3/4 ton applications too.
Getting a a bracket and rod at a junkyard isn't easy picking anymore. Expect to pay $100 or more for one if the seller knows what it is.

Show me a factory 3/4 ton with a 700r4 ?
The 700r4 is only rated for 1/2 ton or less vehicles.

Someone on here shut me up on this a while back. Showed a 3/4 burb glove box sticker with the 700R4 OD oprion.

Yeah, I got a laugh out of that also.
Probably has 3.08 gears & the tow capicity of a chevette.
40 gal tank @ 45mph you could go 650 miles on a fill up, just couldn't tow anything.
