M1009 starting problems

crack a fuel injector line at the injector to see if you are getting fuel that far.
check you plugs with OHM meter, just because they were replaced does not mean they are bad again especially if you still have the resistor in place.

It only takes fuel and heat and enough revolutions to start a 6.2

If you have an IR thermometer, check your plugs to see if they heat at all.

have you installed the new lift pump or doing it this sunday?
Can I just shoot the plug with the ir where it enters the head or do I need to pull them to check this.

read up on the resistor bypass, sounds like a glow plug cascade failure.

An OHM meter is needed to check the plugs individually

get a charger on those batteries. strong batteries are important.

check glow plugs first and fuel to the injectors second.

you should see some temp difference at the base of the plug if it is working especially after two or three cycles

The IR thermometer can be a very use full tool in your glove box. I often check my t-case, tranny pan, brake calipers and rotors, diff's and hubs after I have been out putting some miles on it. Using it on your hubs you can tell which ones are adjusted to tight. they will run 1o to 20 degrees hotter than the others.

Drive that truck up here to Pennsylvania and I will help you out. I fish Conowingo all the time. It is about a 60 mile drive from Conowingo straight up PA 72 out of Lancaster. I am offering to help you have a reliable truck. Other members here brought me their trucks and are still driving them. I will not name them but they had all sorts of Mods done and I returned them to the OEM design. Problems over. Not perfect but most no other issues related to the starting system.

Not necessarily. I use a test light. Quick test, works like a charm, been doing it like this for 12 years. Pull wires from Glow plugs, hook test light to 12v+, touch test light probe to glow plug spades. If it lights,its good. If not, its dead, needs replacing.

Well got home from work tried to start it twice, still long wait light and crank but no fire. So I got my wrenches and my battery charger and popped the hood to unhook my batteries to charge them, but first I thought let's try raping on the glow plug solenoid with a wrench and see, it used to work on the old ford trucks. So i got back on the trick turned on the key the wait light came on and went off like it normally would when cold and she fired right up. So I guess I need to replace the solenoid.

That was easy. i will be down at Conowingo the first 2 Saturdays in June. Free fishing in Maryland days. If you hae any tips for cat fishing from shore I would greatly appreciate them. I drive my Mule down every time I go.024.jpgI can wash it out with the pressure washer and hose.

Just get a 24v voltmeter and plug it right in.
Works like a charm and you don't have to mess with the original 12v ones that seem to act up and not work.

ISSPRO is a good one and good deals are on eBay for military surplus ones.

They are more suited for the cucv unlike the ones for the 5 ton, etc which does not have its own light.

A working gauge is really nice.

Do you think that could be causing the longer crank issue this hole time? cucvrus: Or is it still possibly the lift pump? I will try to pick up a new solenoid Monday when my parts guy gets back in.

I have been using the VDO 332-902. It is a direct fit and you can use the pigtail from the stock gauge. The meter reads 18 volt -32 volt and has a battery pictured. Another nice thing is it has no chrome edge. It is a match for the blacked out look you desire in your CUCV.DSCF6957.jpgDSCF6954.jpgDSCF6955.jpgDSCF6956.jpgThe bulb can utilize the original light harness with 2 standard spades. Or slip the existing light into the back of the gauge. I hope that helps. I am coming to Conowingo on Saturday June 4th ready for catching some Catfish.

ISSPRO is also direct fit and black bezel, like the VDO
Light hooks up direct also

There are several choices out there.
VDO makes a great gauge. So does ISSPRO.
Just relaying a great deal on a great gauge.

I have a VDO tachometer ordered.

Point is, you have great choices to get a working gauge in your cucv.
