I discovered that very same clearance issue....3 years ago... I basically said screw it, those damn huck bolts will be the death of me.. Lord knows what lurks behind the c6 clutch cover and within the TC/transmission... So my choices were a pot luck used trans/TC for $5k or a retran from MTP for $11k... I , gulp, chose the later.. 3 years and 5k+ miles later.. zero issues...
I don't have any needle bearings, metal pieces, or anything pointing to C6 failure, that I know of. I'm trying to replace it to hopefully prevent that.

Loosen the bed bolts. Put a bottle jack on the tire. Cut a 4x4 to length you need and raise the bed. You can sneak it out then
Oh that's a good technique. Huk bolts were cut a year ago, have some 10.9 replacement bolts so dont even need the angle grinder for your technique.

I was also considering welding some 2" receivers on my truck bed corners to use camper jacks but that is a much more convenient right now option. Thanks !

Any info or insight on C6 bearing failure rate while running atf?
Allison spent the time/money to engineer 2 replacement parts for the entire series of 3070/3700 which I have to assume is running ATF in non-mil applications so I'd say high enough to warrant engineering a replacement part ?

The military no longer uses 15w40 in the Allison's on the A1P2's. They use Dexron VI.

Successfully removed the C6 housing on my M1078A1 using the 4x4 brace method. Not too bad, and some convenient spots. I left the rear 2 bolts holding the bed down, but loosened them. Hoping they'll help keep the alignment of the bed as I lower it. MTF on that I guess.

Can someone who has purchased this part post the contact info for where you purchased it. I have no current issue with my 2008, but want to eliminate the chance of having it in the future. Thanks

You need to look thru the tech note bulletins(i think they are in this discussion), and compare the transmission S/N cutoff where they switched to the current bushing from the previous specced needle bearing packages. Compare that S/N to your transmission S/N to see if yours was produced before that time and if you even need it.

The new thrust washing came into play in 2011, my truck is a 2008.

Correct. My 2008 doesn't have the newest one either - our serial numbers are too low. But always check the serial number to make sure the military didn't swap out the transmission or something.
Well, my truck seems to be the one that just sat and had parts scavenged off of it, so I doubt it had a new trans put in it after 2011, but who knows. As low as the mileage on my truck was, I doubt it even had any fluid changes done, so probably unlikely they swapped in the new thrust washer either. No way to know that or not, other than open it up, but it can't hurt to check the trans serial number just in case it did get a new trans for some reason. Can you point me to where the serial number is located?

exactly, its by S/N, which can be located on the right side of the transmission housing, metal plate riveted to the aluminum case.

I'll take a look when I'm with the truck next time. On another note, it appears there is a gasket between the C6 housing and the t-case body, either that or it's a very nice sealant job. Anyone have a part number handy for the gasket? My computer with my A1R TM database is with my kid currently.

When you talk to Allison, they can order if off your description.

Talked to an Allison dealer today said the thrust washer is $418 and has to come directly from Allison, no dealers stock it. They were supposed to check an additional source and call back but I didn’t hear back from them. Sounds like they have zero familiarity with 3700SP but they should be able to figure out the gasket associated from the assembly diagram the washer shows in.

I gave them the serial of my trans and they pulled up the new bearing and I asked for the gasket and they quickly put that in the order as well.
