New deuce owner seeking advice

Decided to check looking logging companies and the local tire dealer. 10.00r20 retreads from the local tire dealer was over 4k for 3 tires. And apparently retreads are illegal to run on steer tires (or so I was told I know it isn't true unless the duece is a passanger bus...) Local logging outfit has one rig that runs them and is swapping tires out next week and willing to part with some. :D just got my motor and gear oil. Filters in monday or Tuesday. Getting close to another startup.
Does the barges from Seattle stop in your end of the island? I had several large shipments including tires shipped to the freight terminal and then they throwed them on the barge headed to Juneau. I am not sure but I believe Wes Simpson on here ships tires but not 100% sure. He has all types.

That is alot of money for 3 tires. Holy hell.

Retread laws vary by state. Some places they only apply to commercial vehicles.

If you are more flexible with your selections, you can find a better deal in a different size. The deuce isn't so picky.
Alaska State law leaves retread laws to The federal government and only limits studded and chained tire use. All other tires are legal unless going against federal law.

The barge stops in two different spots on the island but due to being the only shipper to the island personal frieght tends to run around 400 a pallet... May have to message him and check in cost of tires. Then see if i cam get a discount on shipping because one of the main guys at the local yard is a buddy of mine from school.

Logging trucks may be running on private haul roads so they don't have to be DOT compliant.
That is very true. I will have to check tires. So long as tread depth is still 4/32 they will be legal stear tires. 2/32 and legal drive tires. Other than that tire patterns don't matter here. Gotta love Alaska for some laws and regulations.

So been looking around for airline info for a duece. I want to swap it all to the dot nylon tubing including coming straight out of the compressor. I am finding conflicting informatiin and some missing info. So.
Question 1: is the air coming out of the compressor to hot for nylon tubing?
Question 2: do all the fittings have the same thread?
Question 3: if I went all 3/8 tubing for quick connect fittings what fittings would I need?
I can find the currently used fittings online at resellers but no info on them aside from a part number. The parts manual referenced on the dash of my duece is the same and on here I can only find people say they use these fittings and hoses without any more info. And the compressor line seems a point of contradiction. Any clarification would be great. Thank you all.

Not sure how big of an issue it is to run 10.00r20 in the rear and 9.00r20 in the front. If not to big of an issue might run that for a little while. The split rims don't intimidate me. The over all tire price does...
If the truck has the air shift front (switch in the cab) and not the sprague, AND you don't need all wheel drive, the different size on the front and rear will not matter very much, if at all.

9.00R20 and 10.00R20 are very close in outer diameter, according to tire size charts available online.

40.1 vs 41.2 in diameter. New, that is. Who knows how big or small the difference is with different tire wear.

New they are within the 3% size difference generally acceptable for tire sizes.

I would not hesitate engaging the front axle on soft ground.

That makes sense. I hadn't thought about the size difference on tires that big. Used to s10s and old toyota twd pickups. Toyota i always run smaller in the front but even a small difference slants the truck.

Been looking into the electrical situation. Seems a pretty straight forward system. Looking at all led lights. Civilian modded blinker relay in oem housing is my plan and then resistors on the headlights.

Still teying to figure out the npt sizes for the airlines.

DO NOT put diesel crankcase drain oil into the fuel system, unless you have a new HH and want to change out the hydraulic head.
I can not get the soot out here and probably not at 55° 43'N 132° 52'W either.
If she don't run right then don't think of tires and brakes and things.
If She worked hard as a logging truck She may be saved.

Got 10 gallons of 15-40w engine oil and 10 gallons gl-5 mt-1 rated gear oil for everything else. Fresh grease for the grease spots. Oil filters should be here tomorrow or Monday. Trying to get a full filter set from eBay but might just order fuel filters as well and have them in by Wednesday. Alternator should be ordered tomorrow as well. Going with the wolverine after market kit for that. I know she leaks air like a sob from when I had her run full throttle the first fire up. If she don't run right I have to find out why and fix it but for now i know the air system has holes. After that i can check brakes. Tires are a good thing to get sorted do to find a supplier that will ship here even if I end up putting it off for other things just having a supplier for when ready is good. My lights don't currently work aside from one turn signal as I recall and the booster pump doesn't work. So need to figure those out. Booster for ease of the primary pump and lights for legality. For now air parts and lights are being put onto an order to be made as soon as I am ready witch will be after the next fire up. (So fuel filter and oil changed all roung plus greased and oil in the airpack.) Sound about right? Not trying to be rude just summing everything up so if i am missing something I can be corrected and look into it. Also the batteries I have for it are two 4d batteries.

Ok. I wasn't aware of that. Just got it confirmed by a semi mechanic I know. Crazy how hot those get apparently. 12-24 inches of a steel tubing of some kind recommended... Thanks for the reply. And not that I didn't believe. Just as someone who does most of my own mechanics I like to understand how stuff works.

Something I forgot to mention in the previous post is I will also be adding fresh antifreeze as I have access to a 55gal drum that the local shop got that was the wrong stuff from what they use but will work for this application. So aside from wheel bearings (for now) it will have all new fluids and grease by the end of next week.

Area it is large. Lots of road. But very separated from everything. Intend to use the duece for firewood.

Got the fuel shutoff freed up by taking it apart and using pb blaster. got full filter set on order. Cheapest way to get air filter. Getting oils tomorrow.
Exactly what did you take apart on the fuel shutoff?

Just put service air INTO the right rear gladhand and search for all the air leaks.
Nice and quite that way with truck not running.
I have seen a few people talk about using the gladhand as a remot line. Is that similar yo what you are talking about? I do not currently have access to a gladhand unfortunately. But hope to soon.

Exactly what did you take apart on the fuel shutoff?

I believe it is called the fuel shutoff lever? When I tried to move it in the truck it was completely stuck. So brought it home. Put it in a vice using intertube to prevent maring of the bottom with the wedge in it. Took the nut and keeper off of the top. Hit it with pb blaster and let it soak for a bit. Eventually got to where I could wiggle it with tools so I gently worked it apart. On blaster both sides and clean them with a paper towel. Got them good and clean. Tested movement and I can now spin it freely so put the keeper back on. Put the nut back on and folded the keeper tabs back up.
