The real issue was the transfer case needed to be swapped. Then since I have a couple LDS engines, why not? Then the front harness is falling apart. I figured no cab would make everything easier. Now that I have everything ready to go, I have three wreckers and none work to put it back together again.

I am starting to take it as a sign I should wait till I find a power steering box and install dual brakes before putting her back together again. Only problem is it might take another year! I miss driving her. (Angie does too)

John, can you estimate how long it would take for the convoy to pass a given point? I might be able to do a pass with the drone . With h the new gimbal I can get right at 9 minutes of flight time depending on the winds.
Once we get going, out on the road, 3-5 minutes depending on number of trucks. We seem to avg about 50 vehicles, so figure 10-15 trucks per minute by a fixed point.

Consider this! In years past the convoy has lined up on Randolph Church Rd. Would you consider (if logistics allow) lining up along the road that leads out back? I could hover the drone across the street by the chicken coup and video the trucks leaving the compound while capturing the compound in the rear. We can play with it a little when I get there if you would like to see if it frames well.

We can try that, but it is like herding cats. The problem seems to be that the trucks that are lined up, block the trucks that are trying to get to the rear of the line. Plus turning the trucks back in the woods by the track is tough, if the civi folks are racing back there.
Two years ago, we lined up on the paved road, and by the time we had everybody out there, the lead truck was at the DT's main building, and tail dog charlie was down by DT Mike's house.

I went by DT last Friday, but other than giving the main field a quick look over, I did not go back into the grove of trees behind the clay pit. Maybe we can rough out a path, and line everybody up in a big loop though the trees.

It's no worries John. I can also film them as they drive underneath. We'll get something unique out of this machine.

I went back and watched the 2013 video. With 36 vehicles, it took 2 minutes and 6 seconds on the first "pass" and 2 minutes, 10 seconds on the second.

That's measuring when the lead vehicle is about a 100' from the camera and a couple seconds after the last one passes.

I think to be on the safe side, you should plan for 2.5-3 minutes.

I am trying to find a ride part way/all the way back to San Antonio, TX for an M915 AC Kit. I might have one but need to be ready in case they are unable to attend the Rally. The entire kit weighs 185 or so in the box. ( Can probably be taken out of box and individual parts moved one at a time.

Thanks, Mik

I can get it from the Rally to the GA/AL line off I-20. ke5eua might be able to get it further than I can west though.

I have parts in Plano that need to get to the rally. Mine are shippable so it's not a huge issue. Sound off Texans!

I'll be heading that way. Dropping the trailer at fuzzys and stopping by David's then on my way to temple.

Your more than welcome to put it on the back deck and I'll bring it to you.

Keep me in the loop on this, ideally we should have some shots from both the drone and the ground video at the same spot more or less, so we can play around and fuse the material together later.

I will bring the video and the Nikon, but NO tripods. Anybody can take a stable tripod for the video? Ideally, I will have the video run permanently in the same direction, and use the D90 (better fish-eye work) for short moving shots and for pics from the same location.

Robert, I got your PM, just been lazy (busy). When you get there come see me and I'll get you plugged in if you want to lend a hand. Could probably stand to have an IT guy at registration. I plan on bringing one tripod. Stability I can't say as I know nothing about them. I will also have the GoPro camera that can be set up somewhere. Yeah, I own it but haven't used it enough to really know it! We could even attach it to the bottom or side of one of the trucks for that cool "going down the road" footage.

Put some of this partly in other threads as well, hope the moderators will cut me some slack here (thanks).

I have a free baggage allowance of 50 Lbs including the suitcase or bag itself. Heavier between 50 and 70 lbs costs me another $150, an extra bag of 50 lbs costs me $200. So I have to plan and measure carefully and leave my dirty close and old shoes behind.

1) weight of an air-pack, seems to be around 20 lbs, somebody has an accurate weight? Same for a 5-ton MC? I would like to take both back home if possible for my 5-ton dual brake system project.

2) weight of a canvas dump truck cargo cover for troop transport. Only the tarp, not the rest of the stuff.

3) the travel together thread seems dead for all purposes, so I will post here and in transport needs. Anybody needs another driver to get this extra car to the rally or don't have time to drive yourself? I am game for driving an MV to-from the rally. Somebody of the northern states would be ideal (so I can fly into NY or Chicago). Distance is no problem, alone driving also not, but I would like to be at the rally Tuesday, in special cases Wednesday afternoon is acceptable but preferable not later. Departure is completely free. I would need to know soon, I need to book tickets before the end of the week.

4) Do I understand correctly that there will be a lot of options to get your hands dirty, both during the trails but also in working on trucks or parts? Thinking brake modification and other fun here again.

I have a couple of tripods available. I also have a Canon 5d MKII and a range of lenses that takes some nice stills and video. I'm definitely better with still photos, but I'd be happy to set up wherever I'm needed.
