I just got word from defrocked SS member Freighttrain that a live steam locomotive will be passing near me. It will be traveling from Chattanooga to Birmingham tomorrow and I intend to get some pictures as it screams through Collinsville, AL.
I'll post them tomorrow.

When I was a young Specialist trying to get promoted I took the all of the railroad correspondence courses offered by the Transportation Corp. It taught me a lot about military railroading and I maxed out on promption points for correspondence courses.
Fort Eustis, Va used to have an extensive railroad network and a lot of rolling stock up there....I attended my Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course (BNOC) up there.

I'd love to put some pictures/videos of some of thoser SP toilets, but the mods would think it was to discusting, any pull the thread, then UPRR management would do their typical thing. If I am gone, waite for the you tube video to come out when I am fired or retired. You really need to be a STEEL SOLDIER to enter one of them. Range toilets smell better. At least at a range, you have the tree option. I wont even talk about hauling a nuclear reactor of really screwed bridges that the railroad wrapped with chains, to keep the thing together.
I was stationed at FT. Eustis, VA in 1987- 1988, as a member 7th Transportation group. They had 2 US Army locomotives. Phonetically speaking, it was spelled "F**k This, Even Uncle Sam Thinks It Sucks." However, I thought it was a really nice post. I would have re-up'd if I was going to stay there longer. Here's a military connection...how about the line of MRS-1 locomotives still out puttering about? Possibly on the top five list of ugly engines of all time, built by both EMD and ALCO to military specifications. Low hoods for tunnel clearance and dual gauge capability...yes dual gauge! Hollow adjustable axles and truck frames as I remember on friction bearings, true cold war artifacts. Some can still be found operating around the country....at 56 1/2 inches.
I have seen ex-military motorcars that had adjustable guage capability as well.
