Santa Brought a Convoy Warning Light Kit

Santa was was more generous to me that I deserved and brought this:





I'm going to install it on this:



So the question is, do I leave it green or paint it tan prior to install? Anyone with a tan truck have convoy lights installed? What color is your hardware? I have the paint but I don't think I have the patience to wait...

I'll post install pictures as I go.

After you install them green, you will likely be removing them and painting them tan. Or you could sell them to me as they would match my green truck and you could find some tan ones that match your truck. All kidding aside, do you know of any more kits out there for sale?

It won't give you instant gratification, but get out the rattle can, and make them match your truck.
It's way easier than making your truck match them.

My muffler, tailpipe, one mirror head, and some other parts are "green" but most of the truck is still tan. I like the personality it gives it as you see many trucks on GL with mis matched colored parts.

The top triangle bracket on one of my convoy poles is green.

I also like the idea of a camo cover on a tan truck and a tan cover on a green/camo truck.

When I first saw green and tan mixed I didn't like it, but
it has kinda been growing on me ever since I have seen
pics of what appear to be MV's in current use by the
military w/ misss-matched color parts.

In your case I think it would look good. Things will be symetrical...

Great score on the early Christmas present. As mentioned before I think I would leave it green. Many active duty trucks are not all the same color. Kits and updates are added after the last repaint.

I found a kit on facebook a guy was selling, just have to find out how much it will be for shipping. Not a brand new kit but I am not going to complain about it cost is reasonable.

I'll guarantee you right now there are trucks sitting in motorpools with mismatched parts, colors, ETC. mirrors, doors, handles, tailgates, hoods, yep... had them all. Had a tan HMMWV with everything tan except the replacement hood which came OD Green. All of the tan stuff was moved from the old hood to the new and it was installed on the truck that way. Seen mismatched canvas, hard and soft doors (not armored), even grill or front pieces for MTVs.

I'm the guy that even if I wanted it to match I'd install it first... enjoy! Merry Christmas!

I just put a set of convoy lights on my M936 and it was not to bad of a install. But the two nuts for the u-bolt on the lower right side are a B((*&^^.
The battery box is in the way and the foam does not help.

Any chance you can post pictures? Also, have you put a tape measure on the lowered height? I'm getting nervous that they might be too high for my shop doors. I hope 11 feet is enough.

Also, what's the deal with the directions saying to hook the harness into the dimmer switch? Wire 16A? It does say you need the service drive lights on for the convoy lights to operate - but I haven't pulled out a wiring diagram to figure out the dimmer switch deal? Any comment?

I just went to Calrk in WV and could not find the convoy lights even
entering the NSN in advanced search. Am I at the wrong Clark?

Also, what's the deal with the directions saying to hook the harness into the dimmer switch? Wire 16A? It does say you need the service drive lights on for the convoy lights to operate - but I haven't pulled out a wiring diagram to figure out the dimmer switch deal? Any comment?

I ran a separate power feed through a circuit breaker for mine. Figured if something went wrong I hopefully wouldn't loose all the lights or electrical system. Although mine is on a deuce I would think it would be easy enough to hook up something similar on yours. Just a thought.

I lowered my lights 4" and I will check when I get back home. But I think when I was checking on putting my lights on 11' may not clear.

I did not wire it as the directions show. I took a Y off the circuit breaker on the firewall and added another circuit breaker to the firewall. I then ran the hot wire from the new circuit breaker (auto reset) to one side of the switch and the other side to the 2 lights. This way the lights can be on anytime the power switch is on. It seemed much simpler and better than taping the dimmer switch and the light circuit. Nice big hole next to the pcb box to route wires into the dash.

I also used a bracket from spruce surplus to mount an indicator light. The other switch & light is for a set of front driving lights under the bumper.

The height is going to be tight. I have 11.00 g177 on stock wheels and my set up with the pole in the lowest setting is 128 inch. I have small led strobes instead of the reflector beacons which I think are taller.

Thanks! That helps a lot. I think I'm in trouble with height but I did measure my shop door and it's 11'6". We'll see when I fit everything up. I also see I might have to make some small changes for my soft top.
