No, there is no fluid cross contamination. It is just blowing compression out of the back. It probably was making a knocking sound when it first blew and still had some gasket material in there, but once it blew it out it quieted down. It had a barely audible tick, but the way I found it was just that I saw the oil spot on the firewall, then I started it up and stuck my hand back there and felt the compression escaping.

The idle has always been low (5,000 to 6,000 rpm), but it usually holds a constant idle.
That sounds pretty high to me lol

That's a classic example! Trying to do too many things at one time usually results in nothing done right! My old engine usually idled at 500 to 600 rpms. I assume at 5,000 to 6,000 rpms I would have a grenade as opposed to an engine! :burn:

-oh, its going to knock real good after idling at that RPM......
:funny:

When I called Jeepsinker last December, the engine was making a loud "knocking" sound. It was the loudest at the top rear of the engine on the passenger side. There was no oil on the firewall at that time.

I'll let Mike update you guys with what is going to take place here. We spoke earlier.

Well, we are going with Plan B! No, not the contraceptive... The engine swap.

Jeepsinker diagnosed the blown head gasket. Based on the work he did today, it also sounds like the injection pump and the turbo are on their last legs. Since I have a rebuilt engine in the back of my truck, the economical solution will be to swap engines now.

My goal is to have a reliable truck, hopefully in time for the Texas Rally on April 1st. Here is the list of "to-do" items we started this evening:

1) Swap engine!
2) Properly adjust the breaks. Recently, a commercial truck mechanic helped me change all wheel cylinders, master cylinder, flexible break lines (new ones from peashooter), and the airpack. We bled the breaks with a "Recovry4x4 break bleeder" that I built. However, the breaks were not adjusted properly.
3) Fix the parking break.
4 - ?) Let's see what else Jeepsinker finds...

Wish I'd sent the Goat over to you. Might have saved me a new engine :)

Mike - what's the plan for Mullins? I was going to let you drive the Goat but you can't have it all weekend.

Mark - I'll be at the Texas Rally, and I'm going to take you up on the offer to drive the Goat! :driver: Fuzzy also offered me a ride in his HEMTT. So, I hope to spend a little time in the Goat, a little time in the HEMTT and the rest of the weekend in my Deuce!

If you get to College Station on April 1st and don't see a green and black Deuce, well then I might become a permanent fixture in the back of the Goat... :D

Okay, its time to wake this thread up... 9 days to the Texas Rally and counting...

Jeepsinker started on my truck this afternoon, and I went shopping on the way home from work.

Oil & Coolant.jpg

I picked up 8 gallons of coolant at NAPA (Fleet Charge SCA Precharged 50/50 Prediluted) and 6 gallons of John Deere Break-In Plus oil.

I'm headed out to Jeepsinker's AO tomorrow morning to deliver the fluids and hope to be a mechanic's assistant for a couple hours before I have to race home.

Pictures to follow tomorrow.

Too bad you can't take fuzzy along with you so he could pick up his truck.
Thanks for the heads-up Mark! I didn't realize that fuzzy has a truck at Jeepsinker's and, as it turns out, a trailer too! I'll tow the M1101 trailer home with me tomorrow. If the timing works, fuzzy and I will pick up our trucks and convoy home next week.

Well the body may be broken but the mind is still sharp as a golf ball.
