The T813 6x6 is basicly an 8x8 with the 3rd axle "blanked", so it has 2 steering front axles. The T815 6x6 seems to have 2 rear axles and a single steering front.
Funny, the T815 we're looking at is a 6x6 with two steering front axles. It's a relatively early one though.

Thats right, it does about that for 80kph highway speed. Bear in mind when offroading its more like 200L/100km. But you get more than double the fun, too:roll:
I can live with that - my Land Rover can manage 10mpg fully laden and probably less when driven off-road.

To quote Wikipedia: In September 2006 Tatra introduced its Euro4 compliant turbocharged T3D engine with the SCR exhaust technology and in February 2008 the worlds's first Euro 5 compliant aircooled diesel engine based on T3D engine.
Those are both far more modern than the T815 we're looking at so I suspect it's just been described incorrectly in the advert.

Theres a slot on the front bumper to fit a hydraulic pump to the main shaft. Otherwise, yeah, the winch in your way to go. Bear in mind the winch is powered through the gearbox, so you end up having a 20 speed PTO ;)
Thanks for that - I actually found John's T813 pictures with the bolt-on hydro pump, that is helpful and it looks like there's plenty of room to tuck things in the engine bay.

Nice bloke from Tatra's tech department sent me this;

"-T 815 TP 6x6 is not military modifikation, it is special civil truck for haulihg heavy trailors upto weight 100 tons.This truck is equiped by winch for manipulation with load
-the engine T3-930-53, which is used in the truck T 815 TP 6x6, is not multifuel, only military modifikations have multifuel engines
-T 815 TP 6x6 has not CTIS
-the fuel consumption is between 45-80l/100km according to operatin conditions, dimensions on the picture, which is attached
- the top speed of this truck is only 70km/h, increase the top speed on 100km/h is impossible, is possible exchange tyres 18,00R22,5 per tyres 15,00-21 or 14,00R20 Michelin and in such case will be max. speed around 80 km/h. That is everything, what is possible to make for increase the max speed.
-the concrete blocks on the superstructure you can remove, these blocks are ballast during operation with heavy trailor
-this Tatra is equiped by interaxle differential lock and axle differential lock too."​


So thats the TP6 out of the window :roll: ......... unless.. hmm​

On the Kolos front I'll try and find out if the reduction hubs can be removed or if lumping a civilian gearbox would sort the ratios for higher speed, it looks very doable to fit a Kolos with the later injection pump and twin turbos (from a civilian NTH model) though :-D

theres always propane...​

excuse the picture (its a model) but its the best pic I can find that shows the ballast blocks on a TP6



I found a couple of TP6's for sale, some had the blocks painted and I couldnt work out what they were (I half thought they were additional tanks) until I found this picture showing lifting eyes - the nice man at Tatra confirmed them as concrete ballast blocks for maintaining traction when heavy towing

Yeah. Same goes for the other models. My 813 manual states I have to load it up to 22 tonnes before it can haul 65+ ton trailers.

On another note, the local paint specialist came to check out my truck today. Apart from a massive load of good tips, he can get me good lead based primary coat, and 2-component paint in black and caterpiller yellow in large enough quantities to cover the entire rig including chassis and drivetrain. For a great price :grin:

Another update, got pictures from the cabs offered by MortarInvestments. Looks like they take good care of them.... in a jenga kind of way.

Can anyone tell me more about the multifuel capability of these trucks? I know broadly multifuel lumps can "burn anything" but I am also aware it can vary from vehicle to vehicle - some you can stick anything from roadkill to rocket fuel in the tank and it'll munch it up, some you have to specially prepare the engine, keep an eye on octane ratings, mix it with some normal fuel or add oil to it, suffer reduced power, etc. etc. which is less convenient.

The reason for asking is in Russia the quality of fuel can vary, as can the price, so if we can run these on ultra-cheap rubbish petrol (~72 octane is cheaper than diesel, we've seen as low as 62!) even if we have to mix it with some proper diesel that will help the running costs a bit.

Well the manual has a seperate section for the Multifuel Engine. Not all trucks are equipped with it though. If memory serves me right, the multifuel is the 19 litre 930-17 engine. I've not read through that part of the manual since I dont have that engine. All I know is there is a lever to set the engine for the kind of fuel youre using, and it has a section on how to decide which position to use.

All I know is, even with multifuel capable engine, I'd rather pay a little more than have to worry about bad fuel and having to clean the entire engine.

Yea, it's basically the same 17L engine with some additional equipment included for running multi-fuel, however there are some minor differences in the engine itself, cylinder heads have different valve gear with valves that have a greater seating area, also looks as if the compression ratio might be slightly lower than the diesel only variants.

As with most engine designed for multi-fuel use they are not intended to run on it continuously, it's more of an emergency measure when the normal fuel becomes unavailable. I'm not sure what the long term effects would be from running on poor quality fuel over a long period; I imagine if it's a heavy oil then heavy 'coking' may occur eventually leading to loss of compression as valves will begin to get held open with the coke deposits, whereas running on petrol type fuels would probably cause overheating and have a high knock value.

I haven't had any experience running a Tatra on it but I shouldn't think that they'd be any worse on it than any other diesel engine as long as you have the appropriate kit fitted (i.e. heater for the veg oil)

can anyone do me a big favour please, Tatra describe the location of the VIN number as being "located on the right side of back,bone frame (tube) under gear box." Im trying to explain the location via email to someone whos english is not so hot and I wondered if an 813 owner could take a pic of thier VIN and email it to me - feel free to obscure the numbers, I just need to show him where it is!

Between the 2nd and 3rd wheel on the backbone tube (so under/behind the fuel tank).

Sorry I dont have a picture :( Be aware tho, its not like a major ID code or anything. At least, all mine has is 4 punched digits.

Hey, good to see you're still around! Im still working on that, mostly because contacts in czech are very slow... Im looking into buying two cabs (someone else in the country needs one too) and some other small parts in one deal, gets us all a better price. There's been a lot of mailing back and forth, and even some phone contact... hoping itll work out soon!

I've sent a PM but no response :( anyone want to sell me a set of manuals on CD / by e-mail? I'm quite close to buying a T813 now (found one for good money but there are a few details to work out) so want to get hold of the full manuals for it so I can see what needs to be done.

Oh yes - they're very very cool to drive ;) you're right about them being loud (this one had no silencer at all) but not actually a lot louder than my V8 Land Rover at full speed.
