Total Brake Failure on my Air over Hydraulic Tacoma

I couldn't tell by the pic, but, if the brake light switch is on the hydro side, it should be moved to the air side when you rebuild the pack. I can't remember if the switch is the same or if you need a new one for the air side... Me thinks it's the same....

Yours is the old "long" air pack. I'd pull it and look to see how bad the internals are before ordering a rebuild.

I went through 6 air-pacs to rebuild 2. The bore can get so bad no amount of honing will help. Also the next biggest problem is the air piston apply chamber. It also can be so corroded that you cannot hone it out.

Removed the Airpack break assist and opened it up. It was a mess to say the least. I was told that the water build up was caused by not blowing my airtanks often enough letting the condensation build up. Suffice to say it was a total loss. Interior parts crumbling.

So I bit the bullet and purchased a new one (old stock) from TMJ. About a two hour job with the replacing of one tube that twisted apart (the top one that connects to the master cylinder). Then another two hours to bleed everything.

The biggest pain in the ass was the 1/4" tube reconnected to the master cylinder cover. About 40 minutes and a whole lot of cussing and I finally got it.

At any rate, all is well, and it was done in time to take the boy scout troop in the mardi graf parade. It stops on a dime.

So thanks to all that took the time to help. It is much appreciated.

I have a friend who has a new to him Deuce which just sits in the yard with a brake problem similar to the OP's one. The pedal goes to the floor & that is all she wrote; maybe he will see this thread & try to get his truck back into running condition. Thanks for all the info & entertainment...

Brian, if you stay around you will see that most of the people here are good people and like to help, and some others just .....not people person or simple backwards, I have a gripe with those guys grilling everyone with "WHY YOU POSTING THIS, WAS DISCUSSED MANY TIMES?" or "WHY YOU DID NOT DO A SEARCH FIRST?".....I am a member of this board for 11 years and those comments annoy me more than repeated issues. I think help and respect should be a first here, my opinion... and that is not for discussion, period.
