G'day everyone,.....

Today I had a brain storm,....

Remember a while ago I went to see the guy near me who has the M185?

He also restores and has had a few International Army trucks, he's currently working on one.

It has a winch, these winches can be used at the front OR rear of the truck.

I came across one of these winches for sale and had the idea of fitting it to the rear of my Deuce.

The winch is made by Garwood and is rated at 20,000 lb.

Since my Deuce has the rear PTO still on it,....

See where this is going,.....

Thoughts?

It is definitely possible. Company that I used to work for long ago had front and back mounted winches. The ones mounted in the back were generally for operating Gin Poles. The winch in the front would hold the poles at the proper angle and rear mounted winch did the heavy lifting.

Link below has a rear mounted winch picture. along with the headache bar to lift over the side of the truck.

She looks tough just sitting there for the next adventure.
Just about sunrise... Waiting patiently :)

It will be interesting to see how your camo netting looks on top of the canvas. I have seen plenty done that way for display, but roaring down the road - I am curious what you will tie it down with. The netting I have is nylon with something that feels like plastic attached to it. Some of the US made pieces are actually radar absorbing (pretty cool!). All that I have found rustle like leaves in October around here. The Brits use nylon for a base too, but they use strips of burlap dyed in three colors for theirs netting. Like a Ghillie Suit...

I went back and read your post.
End of September. Wow!
I guess we are pretty fortunate over here - Up Over.

G'day everyone,.....

The initial shipping info when I placed the order was delivery expected end of Sept.

Once the order was placed and confirmed delivery is now beginning of Sept so not so bad.

Fingers crossed!

I finally got around to mounting and wiring the marker lights on the bed. The three red rear center lights I mounted on the tailgate. I did not want to cut out the panel under the bed (M35A3 style), I did not want to mount them underneath said panel because that interferes with the pintle and mounting them proud of the panel interferes with the tailgate.

I used an aluminium L-profile to mount the lights on and fit them right in the centre of the top horizontal rib of the tailgate. The lights do not protrude out from the tailgate.
The wire runs straight down, through one of the ribs (drilled 2 holes, installed grommets) and then into the cutout for the trailer plug and over to the right hand taillight.

I know that I do not "have" to have these lights (exempt due to age of truck) but In today's traffic I feel safer in the dark with them!

Lighting looks nice. I agree with you! mounting them proud isn't good and in the way of the pintle isn't good either. I think you done good !

I do have a question for you: Is that reflective Red / Yellow vinyl on a magnet on the tailgate? Looks like a pretty good idea. It's there or it can easily be removed if there was ever a need...

@Mullaney Yes, the delineator panels are on magnets.

Neat! I know a guy. We just finished a job on reflective vinyl and I have some scrap. Guess we will be printing some of those for my trucks.

I definitely like the idea of being noticed.
I like the idea if I don't want to be - I like the easy removal plan.

THANKS cattlerepairman

Hi Dutch. I would love to see a picture of the gasser engine with the hood up. It would be neat to have a sound clip too, so I could understand what you mean about the cool sound.
I just saw your replay this morning. I’ll see what I can do on some video clips. I’m not sure how to upload them. Here’s 2 engine shots right after I got it.

here’s 2 videos of the truck running.
Top speed run!

Walk around
This one was right after I got it running. You can see it’s not even been cleaned up and it’s still on the boat tank

Thank you for the outstanding pictures Dutch! I get a kick out of the carburetor being mounted so high on the intake manifold. That's the way it was done in the 50's. Cool engine!

Here's where I finally decided to mount my new remote brake fluid reservoir. I only have to drop the access cover to check the fluid level. Not as easy as simply looking at one mounted inside the cab, but still pretty darn easy. There's enough clearance so that I'll be able to top it off without raising the hood. I can also easily work on the turn signal flasher unit which is to the inside of it under the heater duct. I haven't ran the hose yet, but that will be accomplished soon I hope.

Owen,

I think that will be really sharp - with nice easy access.
Being able to easily verify the fluid level is first class!

Thanks Tim and SCSG-G4!! Brutus' driver's side panel drops and latches really easy after I banged it straight with a rubber mallet and a block of wood some time ago. Opening the little hatch and trying to get a short wrench on that hard to reach master cylinder cap is no fun at all. This should be much better.

I've noticed that it's very hard to see a green army truck at night. I think the extra lights mounted high on the tailgate are a great safety idea!
