I have one of these trailers which has not had modifications and stands rather high, right at 21" to the bottom of the dovetail. Mine has the legal lighting (led), but I can sure see the need for additional lights.
Wes mentions going to duals. That's a change I would like to make that would change the height.
275/70/22.5s are the cheapest dual with the best weight rating to go to. That size mostly comes on transit buses and RV's. Rated for 75mph and 7,000 to 9500lb each weight rating in duals. Compared to a 245 or 255 size tire that is only rated for 4 to 5,000lbs. They are found on ebay for around $130 each for high treads. Or you can watch the auction sites for when cities auction em off. You can get about 50 bus tires for $10. With 275s vs 425s you would gain about 3 inches. plus the security of duals. If you cut the humps off you gain another 3 inches if something has to sit on top of them to ride.I thought it was very civil and caring and for the most part stayed within the rules of the site.

After reading about your incident I agree with you about the "Mansfield Bars" . The car would have been totaled either way.Toby, just so you can see what mansfield bars do since some people think they are life savers. They do nothing in a 30mph or more impact. The cars still go up and under the trailers. Especially when they same on their brakes and nose dived. In the event on my trailer the 16.00-20 on the tailgate took alot of the impact. So much of an impact that is actually dented in a 3"x 3" x 1/2" thick piece of angle iron against the angle.
a Dovetail trailer such as ours isn't required to have them due to the dovetail and the hindering of the trailers capabilities to perform its primary function. offroad hauling. Regardless of what someone with the most backwards opinion thinks. Those bars would not have saved someone in the situation i had. It would have probably hit him in the face.
