What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Makes perfect sense to me and adding water down low at 8.3 pounds to the gallon will definitely make a difference! Have you done any number crunching to see if the larger tires will improve your road speed? I know they won't do a lot when climbing a long grade, but on flat ground you might gain a few miles an hour maybe?

Again... A cool truck and with your extra features it will be even better!

.
I have heard some rules of thumb, putting it around 5-10 mph at top speed, but no scientific calcs.

Yea I am looking forward to this being a long running project. I got a lot of ideas, just pulling them off will be the true test, ha!

Won't stay too low with 1600s. Driving a 934a1 or a2 is like driving a barn down the highway. Duals on the 934s sure help. Especially with the 10k box. If the box was aluminum and therefore lighter it wouldn't be so bad.

If you run into any issues around Indy and need a tow home. I have a spare 915 series truck between greenfield and mt comfort if needed. There is someone there who can operate it.

Thanks for the heads up. I think the wheel/tires are last on the list once I get it back together enough (cab extension done) to drive it more on the road and get a feel for it. You always offer great advice and have a wealth of experience with these.

Interesting you say that, the truck's off 300 South (south of Greenfield) at my brothers. He has a custom machine shop and an awesome set of tools.

Remember when you get to 1000 south and 1000 w you are at the center of the universe!

While moving my M923 around for winter storage, I installed a new turn signal switch, new fender and took inventory of the little things it will need to b on the road next year. Parst ordering as soon as I'm home from my current trip.

It has been neglected just sitting around but is holding up fine (so far). Next spring will be a fluids change, one battery and a set of plates so it can be exersized on the road.

This same time last year I cracked my passenger side glass pane and I just got that one replaced finally. I had the glass shop put a "seamed edge" on the glass which means they smoothed all sharp edges & corners which i think helped a lot in preventing new cracks from forming. With the glass flat on the table, I used a short piece of 2x4 wood which sat flat on the glass and grabbed the frame edge and then smacked the wood with the dead blow while holding the glass in place with the other hand. This made quick work of the upper frame piece smacking one side & then the other. The lower frame required harder hammer blows and more of them but it eventually came off without breaking the old glass further.

Glad that's done and just in time for rain & snow.

Ran right into rush hour traffic on the Brooklyn-Queens expressway on the way back
I’m sure those commuters have never seen a 5 ton next to them before lol

Definitely a cool recovery!! Nice pictures too. Most likely that is about as close to New York City as I will ever be... I am a little surprised though. To hear the media tell the story, everything in New York is shut down because of this chinese virus. That traffic doesn't look like a shutdown is happening to me. Maybe it is normally far more congested than that?

I replaced my MT654 CR rear output shaft seal. Actually it took a few days. The hard part was taking the small driveshaft from the trans to the transfer case out. It is HEAVY. Taking the 8 bolts out and having to rotate the driveshaft, switching the transfer case to neutral was the hard part. After taking the bolts out, it pretty much just fell out! I used a transmission jack to put it back in. There was no way I could hold that up and bolt it in by myself or even with someone helping me. Now I don't have a leak at the little black tube down there! I replaced my heater fan switch too. Easy Peezy.

I cut one of my junk tires in half to take to disposal place. The beads are a killer to cut. I used a sawzall and a circular saw both with carbide blades and regular finer toothed blades. Lotta work!
Tires like that used to be recycled for use at playgrounds for kids to climb on or swing on. :)
Not OSHA approved anymore, I guess.

Extra Very Nice! Your 813 is decorated up nicely. Amazing that a little green on green with some bright read bows will do for a big piece of iron.
