I paid €35 including (national) shipping here in the Netherlands. Probably expensive? I found an ad and didn't bargain, thought this was well worth it. When researching I read that they can be found for $10 up on junkyards and eBay.

The swap itself is pretty easy, I bet it can be done in 15 minutes. Hardest part was getting the XJ shaft to slide in/out. I did it exactly like this guy did:

Did you cut the wires? Or disconnnect them? Where?
I followed CUCVRUS 's advice." Just unplug it under the hood and work the wire connection towards the inside of the cab. It is tight but it will fit. Just cover the hole with a grommet of padded tape. Happy Holidays and be patient. It fits with no cutting. Or just cut the wires off both ends and let the grommet in place."
It is an easy 10 minute job.

I had to keep yanking and yanking it to separate tho.

I did the same mod a while back. Tightened up the steering when out on rocks so much. Now when I turn the steering wheel the tires actually do what I ask.

My truck has been leaking water I noticed that the stud that the power steering bracket bolts to was loose the other day so I removed it tighten the stud down and replace everything, the seemed to fix my water leak.
Initially when I try to start it the starter would not crank the first try it took two more to get it to spin so I called the auto parts store to make sure they had a replacement in stock while I was on my test drive checking for water leaks. After I got home I remove the starter and both of the bolts holding the solenoid on had come out... I got the replacement starter and quickly installed it and when I looked underneath it to continue to check for water leaks I noticed the transmission pan gasket had started dripping instantly, go figure. I tighten the pan bolts up as best I could and the leak seemed to have stopped. I took it on another test drive to see if I was losing water and transmission fluid and noticed that when I had parked it had started dripping engine oil, I wiped everything off and was able to tighten my filter by hand a little tighter than it was and the oil drip had stopped. I continued my test drive found a clean parking spot to pull in and the transmission pan head started dripping again, now I have something to do on my next day off. A few days ago I noticed an inconsistent rattle coming from underneath of my truck I believe it was the starter solenoid flapping around before both bolts have given way

I would check the little dipstick tube seal. That is a little cup rubber seal like a shot glass. They are known to go bad and make it appear like the pan gasket is leaking. But I would change the pan gasket and the out put seal while I was there. Good Luck.

It leaks from the other side of the pan....i can actually see it coming from the gasket....but it pissed me off that it never did it until I fix three other things lol

I would still do what I said. That way it is another thing covered. Or add stop leak. NOT.

I installed a new GDP-3A.1 glow plug controller board and uninstalled the momentary switch that the PO installed when the old glow plug controller board went bad. I ordered the new controller card on 9/8 in the morning and it arrived at my house today. It looks like a very quality product. I had done the diagnosing for the glow plug system when I got the m1009 home 2 months ago, and was doing other things on the truck.

Used the cateye and blackout wiring for power to an underhood work light and bumper mount utlity lights front and rear.
Since I don't foresee myself in a midnight convoy, nor do I need to illuminate the path for a foot soldier guide, I removed the cateyes and blackout light.
Using the cat eye wiring from the front bumper driver side to power a 50 watt Hella Halogen flood light.
Using the cat eye wiring from the front bumper passenger side to power an led utility work light under the hood.
Using the cat eye wiring from the rear bumper driver side to power an led utility light mounted in the rear bumper cat eye location.
The stock M1009 interlocked headlight switch set to blackout and engaging the blackout switch on the left powers on all three work lights.
Since I did not want the service lights on drawing power while the work lights are on, this offered a simple solution.

I am selling the other lights here on classified.
They all worked except for the spotlights which just need new bulbs.

By the way, if you don't know how these switches work;
The service lights are obvious.
When you select ALL OFF it kills everything; Lights, Blinkers, Horn, Brakes lights, everything.
When you select Blackout everything is still dead except the cat eye circuit comes on until you flip the Blackout switch on the left up once, then the blackout driving light circuit also comes on.
It won't stay up.
This is normal.
It engages the blackout/cateye circuits and powers those or in my case; worklights.
If you switch back to service lights it automatically de-energizes the blackout/cateye circuits.

I have the grill out clean up the Horn wiring and refresh the ground wires.

Glad you posted this.
I was wondering what the previous owner of my M1009 had installed.
He said it had an "updated" glow plug card.
I thought it was the Hillbilly one but could not find a diagnostic description online for those.
Went to the website for the GDP-3A and there is the diagnostic led description!

After changing the gasket and it sitting over night I went for my morning coffee, when at the gas station I re checked for the leak, I'll be a mofo if it wasn't still leaking....i was able to see the grommet and it appeared to be ok ....the modulator looked a little wet but I suspect that it is the front pump seal at this point....**** the luck, fix one thing and three more unrelated things go wrong..unfortunatley this is not a job that my neighbors will allow me to do without legal complaints to the local police department. The bastards...

Hauled 2 truck loads of tires wheels, engines, transmissions, axles and all from one property. Hidden in woods. After that no more. I always tell everyone. The CUCV is not for a person that don't like working on vehicles. If you bought a 1984 Chevrolet Cavalier you would have the same kind of problems. A 30 year old vehicle presents opportunity. Good Luck.

I love my home owners association. I am the president. As long as you don't burn trash or play rap/country music all is well. I may add no lift kits to the new bylaws just for the fun of it.

well if it not a rental and you can work on it there, a flat cement driveway and a transmission jack will make things a lot easier.
You could pull the transmission and transfer case as a unit but you'll need to get that truck up in the air.
That's a bummer a $10 seal requires so much work to replace.

Well, a quality transmission shop should charge a few hours labor plus the seal.
