Took A road trip today and picked up a travel buddy for the truck. Clean 2008 M1101. Local Fire station had it, guy said I have a 2" receiver to pintle adapter you can have to get it home... I told him I have the mate to the trailer I'm bringing to get it, no adapters required!

Started putting together the radio tray. I whipped up some brackets to hold the MCS. There's a panel that will hang in front of it to hold 2 FFCS's. I've got an Amphenol USB socket on both sides, a 12v socket on one, a pirated transceiver switch for master power, and an MTS switch box to hold regulators.

Just about done. I'm waiting for a 24v 40A relay to finish up the wiring.

I think it turned out halfway decent. I tried to use mil spec stuff for everything that's visible. All the stainless is bead blasted to dull it down. I think my favorite piece is the quick disconnect hinge.

The whole thing comes out of the truck with the 4 radio shelf bolts and one 4 pin connector in the OEM radio harness hole.

I’ve never posted here because I usually never take photos.

But since we pulled the A2 off storage to put it back in ‘good looking’ shape with my son, I decided to take a few shots.

It was very dusty after almost 18 months of storage, but just had to plug the batteries and it started after maybe 5-6 revs!

My wife had never seen how a truck gets properly washed!

Got the hood off to get better access to the engine bay. Also the hood has a crack that will need a god repair in the workshop..

The regulator has been shot like that since I got the truck. Some folks in the marine can read ‘NO STEP’.
Oh wait… there’s no such label on the regulator!

One thing I’ve been willing to do in ages was to upgrade the engine opening to fit the exhaust of the turbo diesel in the N.A. 1045A2 Frame.

The cut was easier than I thought. It’s great to have someone to help - I usually work alone and certain tasks can take a lot of prep when doing things alone.

Applied some cement (actually I used some metacrylate that I hod left from another job) and started to rivet it in place:

I like how much room this gives around the exhaust!

The hood isn’t bad but took a hit on the passenger side and will require a good day of work Just for itself.

Doors are OK. One took a large bullet on a pillar, another on the top of the frame, and the composite exploded. The fiberglass is pulled appart, it will take probably another day just to fix the two doors and do a complete sanding on the 4 of them.
I’ve been told several times that I was lucky this truck came its doors. I’ve been looking for doors for the M1123 and it seems it was fortunate to get this A2 with its original doors indeed!
I bought this truck from the reserve, not at a GovPlanet auction.
While it may have been more expensive, and even if some of the work made on it sucked, it feels like it was a good deal, especially since it came with a brand new turbo diesel engine.

This part of the older slant back always drives me nut, with the ton of caulk that either AM General or the contractors who install the back use.
I understand the rational of flexibility when a motorized turret is fit over there, but since I removed the turret hatch, the whole roof will not move and I’ve decided to rivet anything that has a significant gap.

At the end of the day, the A2 is driving smoothly and we took it for a ride… successfully since we came back without any issue…

I love the turbo engine! Despite the extra weight, one can feel the acceleration as a response to the throttle, particularly compared with the N.A. Engine in the M1123.
This one’s a bit boosted, I have no idea how much more power it gets, but I love the responsiveness of the higher boost :)

So that was Saturday.
Day 2 (today) was about cleaning-up and painting the A2.

It was a long day, enjoying the 14 hours of sunlight to sand, clean, fix, prep and apply a first light spray to the M1045A4.
The goals is to keep it green, and not camo. I have 3 gallons of carc sand paint and I was hesitant… but I think older hmmwvs looks better green so there it is:

Note the missing armor plate for the radiators on the driver side. That’s the side that had the doors shot, and there was a hole of about the same diameter (about 14 mm) in the tailgate, at about 45 degrees.

The passenger side still has the plate on the side front for the radiators:

The truck is now in its new color, and in addition to the doors and hood, it will take a few weeks of paint jobs, markings, and so on to finish it.

I’m thinking or re-spraying the wheels green as well, and keep all accessories (from exhaust to snorkel including latches and hinges) satin black, to make it look cool.

I’m aware that the tires are old and should be replaced; these are the MT tires it came with and this truck’s purpose will be local shows and reunions.

I keep the M1123 for serious hauling, long drives and off-road.

Received some half doors for the M1123. Aluminum, they’re surprisingly lightweight, seem to be about 1/4” thick. I‘m not happy with the soft doors and dislike the look of X doors on a soft canvas. Beside, no A/C on the M1123 to windows are open 9 months a year.

I think this truck will end-up being a 2 man cab, because it’s my daily mule and I never take more than a passenger for expeditions. In the 2 man crew configuration I like the sand color style, and I’ve ordered a dozen 7’ long, 4”x1” T6 aluminum extrusions to build racks to expand the ability to load the truck while looking badass.

It’s hard not to touch it before the slant back A2 is done !

You can always add ( build) removable upper half sections 😉😉IMG_7032.jpeg
