at a air show after camping in the rain I gave a buddy's kid a four hour notice before cranking my 5ton and then a five minute and then a yell for a heads up .
well guess what he did not do :-(.
well the buddy had let the kid wear his old marine uniform and it got permanently stained :deadhorse:

When I got my deuce, the J pipe was rotted off. after buying a new J pipe, and sawing off the top of the stack just after the start of the bend (it also was rotted), I walked over to the construction site next door and "borrowed" an aluminum rain stopper off a breather (septic?) of some sort that came out of the ground at one point in time (now in a scrap heap near the dumpster) it just so happened to be 3.5 inches in diameter, and now thats what I use. Works perfect and was free, and makes a good story. I grabbed a few of them, so if anyone else wants one, let me know. they don't make any rattle noises either, another bonus. Not as classy as a coffee can though HaHaHa

One time we were having a Command Inspection at the Motor Pool.
It had rained like a cow pissing on a flat rock the night before and we were told NOT TO CRANK any vehicles before the inspection to keep the aforementioned from happening.
All the vehicles had been washed the day before and were "dress right dress" in their proper spaces. The Motor Sgt. did not want any of them funked up.
All was going well and the Post Command Sgt. Major was giving all the vehicles a good going over. He opened the battery box on one and noticed a slight bit of corrosion on a terminal.
He started giving the young Specialist (my good friend and partner in crime) a royal arse chewing.
He roared "I bet this vehicle won't even start with that s**t on the cable".
He then told my buddy to crank the deuce.....my buddy said "You need to move Sgt. Major".
This was the "Old Army" and that was not what the Sgt. Major wanted to hear from a young SP4.
He yelled "SOLDIER..GET YOUR YOUNG A$$ IN THIS TRUCK AND CRANK IT.....NOW!!!!!
Well........you know what happened......the Sgt. Major got the dreaded "black shower" and not one swinging d**k cracked a smile.....until the Cmd. Sgt. Major had left the area.
If the Battalion Sgt. Major had not been there and intervened my buddy would prob still be in Leavenworth.

Ya know, this thread reminds me....it is SUPPOSED to start raining pitch forks again tonite, better go go cover that bad boy back up. The cover is still in the flower bed from the first start after the rains we had a few weeks ago:roll:

I guess I'm the only guy that melted a friggin vacuum cleaner body down until I figured out it was on the stack; too late. Oh well. But hey, the engine lives on.

This reminds we of what we used to do with immersion heaters. (Kerosene heater to warm up 45 gal of water for abolutions). If a newbie really peed us off, we would block the top section of the smoke stack, and the WAY over prime the heater. DF would then be told to get his can over and get some hot water going for the mornings' wash up. A resounding BOOM always occured, and silly bugger had to go find the top section of the stack, remove it from whatever it became a part of, and beat it back into the correct Army shape! As dumb as our recruits were, this did not usually succeed more than twice. If it did, we told them to become government employees. Little did we know!

How do you melt a vacuum cleaner on a deuce stack? HaHaHa
The winds this winter were blowing every bucket I put on the stack off. So I put an old vacuum cleaner base on the exhaust stack and voila!; I forget it's on there, leave, come back from the kitchen after about 5 minutes for the warm up and there you have it.

A big plastic kitty litter bucket from Costco works good for the 818. Even with 90 [FONT=&quot]°[/FONT] elbow at the top of the stack, I am still concerned with cr@p getting in the stack. I have forgotten to take it off. It doesn't blow off. I just get a cloud of diesel smoke down into the cab:p. Although, I have thought about getting a flapper .

I was firing up to go to work and had just taken a shower and gotten on my clean uniform and went outside to fire up, and had forgotten to put the coffee can equivilant on prior to a rain we had the day before, well I didnt think about it cause it useually sprays other side of truck.....but prevailing winds were against me and I got a shower.....needless to say wife and kids were laughing at me when i came inside!!! Here it is raining and I forgot to put it on again lastnight....oops here we go again.....:roll::mrgreen::cookoo:

Seems like it would be a lot easier to have a new tailpipe end made cut off flush and fitted with the flapper cap..... It saves your muffler (on NA M35A2's), keeps the exhaust from spitting soot all over the cab, truck and cargo cover (from which it doesn't come off), and takes no operator input to make it work or to take it off.....

Just my .02 worth, from experience.....
