The little box is to prevent radio interference. I can happen, that you get some sort strange sounds on your radio or TV. Your set should run perfectly without it. I hope you got the right pump. If its not a flow through type, then later on in life, it could cause a problem,

RFI rarely happens today, but can. Whats wrong with the old pump?

Just quit working. Took cover off. Filter was clean. Put power to it and nothing happens. No clicking. Thank you for your help. Sorry, I’ll be 80 next year and have a little trying to post and send pictures and just about everything in my life. I appreciate your patience with me.

Something to try on your old pump... cut out the old RFI suppressor module and butt splice the wires together and see if it works. If it does, you now have a spare. In civilian life you really don't need RFI suppression unless perhaps your a Ham Radio operator or have other sensitive equipment susceptible to RF interference.

The RFI module is notorious for failing at some point and you get the symptoms you experienced, dead pump. Otherwise, you can disassemble the pump internals and clean them up and that might fix it as well. If you do a search in this forum on either MEP-002 or MEP-003 fuel pump you will get lots of information and pictures.

Thank you. I will try that. I do also have an MEP-003 generator. It would be nice to have a spare.

FYI, if you ever need another pump there are several others available in the $30 range that will work perfectly in your machine in a single pump setup. ( not sure if they are flow through or not )
Another tip is that if you are running the original 2 pump redundant system, unplug one pump. Why run both at the same time for no reason. Run one and if it someday quits, you have a spare already plumbed in, just plug her back in!

You need to stop saying sorry. Nothing wrong with not knowing something, and we are all still learning, up till the dude with the scythe knocks on the door. You got 12 years on me. We may be old, but we ain't dead.

A TM is a Technical Manual. The TM's are the what everyone needs to get smart about equipment. There is more then one TM for this gen set. G.M. tends to not have the latest changed TM's. The TM forum here in SS, Steel Soldiers is, on the whole a bit better.

When you need help, say something. That's what this forum is all about. The first two TM's are the engine TM's. The -24 TM is engine info, and maintenance info. The -24P is the parts info for the engine. The third TM is for the control box and main generator parts. The forth TM is for the conversion from gas engine to Diesel engine. Sometimes its mighty handy. The fifth TM is for the control panel and main generator, operator and maintenance info.

Here are the TM's for the MEP-002A. Keep in mind, the 002A and 003A are almost the same. So you can use the 002A books for the 003A . Yes, there are a few differences, when ordering a VERY few parts. But by and large, the TM's are 99.99% interchangeable.
