What did everyone get from Redstone today?

Just bid what you can your budget allows and be happy if you win. At auction the HIGH bidder wins.
Hey, that is all I am asking. But there are a few who I believe abuse the system. As far as I can tell, the two or three people who bid them up from $300 to $850 DIDN'T WIN A SINGLE TRUCK. They ended up screwing themselves and everyone else out of the chance to get a good deal.

If you really want 240 trucks, you can afford to put a maximum bid of $1500 each. But if you are just hoping to get a dozen at a great price, why bid up the price of ALL of them?

I just bid the max I wanted to pay for EACH truck that I bid on. My bid is a CONTRACT (says so in bold at GL) and I will suffer greatly if I don't honor my bid. I pick the price I'm willing to pay and then bid it, knowing full well that I might win each and every truck I bid on. I also may win nothing or somewhere in between. I don't need any more restrictions placed on me because of what or when I choose to bid. If I wanted a truck for $1500, I would have bid that. It has nothing to do with what I can afford. I could afford one $200,000 dollar truck I suppose ($50,000 for the truck, $150,000 for the divorce), but I don't want to pay that much.

The real moral here is the sub $1000 dollar deuce is gone or almost gone. More and more people are getting into the hobby each day, putting more and more people into the bidding. Bummer for those who want a dirt cheap truck, but I guess possibly good for our taxpayers who deserve a decent price for their surplus goods.

I'll take all the $850 maybe running deuces you got. I don't want any $1500 dollar deuces.

I didn't see this post until after I posted mine.

I fail to see the logic of your compliant. The only person who can be complaining is the guy who bid $975 on all of them. He ended up paying about $40,000 more than he would have had to had the $875 bid not been placed. The only way the rest of us can complain is if the $975 bidder doesn't have the $100,000 to cover his bid and the trucks are relisted.

Often times I bid on a bunch of trucks, maybe $850, maybe even $1000. If I get them at that price-great, but I realize they will probably go higher. The other reason I do it is so I can see the history of the bidding and what the final price was since GL dosn't let you see that unless you are part of the bidding. I want these trucks just as bad if not more than anyone else, I don't think that makes me a bad person because I bid like that. If I get 20 trucks for $850 ea I will pay for them and get them off the base within the time allowed.

I think it just comes down to everyone wanting cheap deuces and as stated before, that just isn't going to happen any more.

And THAT is my central complaint. If you have the money and want to get pre-approved, more power to you.

I saw one auction last year where a guy bid up the price on DOZENS of trucks and was the high bidder on many of them. A couple of months later, those very same trucks were BACK up for auction. That can only mean that the bidder did not have the means to pay for them. But it also means that EVERYONE who outbid him got screwed by his irresponsible act. Everyone involved would have been better off if he had been limited on his ability to bid them up.

So your complaint is about people who don't honor their bids, right? You really shouldn't complain UNLESS that person doesn't follow through with the lots that they won. I guess if I bid on every lot and win every one and pay for them all you really can't complain about how I bid to get them. If a winning bidder defaults THEN you have a legitimate complaint, but until then, it's every bidder for themselves, bid early or bid late, it really doesn't matter.

Jeez, I just got off the phone with the GL person in Redstone and they don't even have an on site inventory! They can't tell me if the trucks I won are even on base or not! How hard is it to have a freaking inventory?

I don't want a bunch of extra steps in the process. GL is already a PITA. By the time I got preapproved under your plan the auction would be over.

Also, in your example auction there are several reasons they came back up for bid. Maybe his EUCs got denied. If it is as you suspect he was either plentalized or his account closed so he shouldn't do it to you again.

Those of us dropping multiple bids looking for that rare cheap truck and to tally closing prices are not Bozos. We are living breathing humans with an OD illness. We only ask for a little respect.

I find it hard to believe folks complaining about $950, $1000 prices as "High".

Fort Lewis had ONE Deuce up for auction. A WO/W, non-dropside truck (with yellow spray paint on some engine components) and it went for at least $3100. I mean, this was a 1971 M35A2, identical to the one I bought 11 months ago at the same location for $1100. $3100? That's stupid money, as there are trucks for sale local/private for less than that. Someone wanted that truck bad.

What annoys me is the resellers who put excessive bids on every lot in an auction, to the point no one else can get anything unless they pay his jacked-up price because he now owns the entire supply. I mean, if I can't get something for $200 at an auction I'm not paying $700 for it "retail".

The only person who gets hurt by someone winning and then defaulting is the guy in second place. Everyone else already had a losing bid and I'm sure they aren't upset about getting another chance. When trucks are relisted they are returned to the cheapest place to buy them. Once they enter the private market they only get more costly. The only reason GL is cheap is because it's a huge PITA. If it were fun and easy it would be reflected on the price tag.

Bottom line is it's a auction. Do I get mad sometimes, sure, but this kind of stuff has been going on as long as auctions have been around ( live and internet). It's just the nature of the beast.

They (GL) aren't going to do anything that could lower prices and putting a max total bid would. I wouldn't do it either if I was them. I wish nobody would bid but me and colusion was legal but that's not going to happen either :-(.

Don't be so down on the reatilers. They bid the max they are willing to pay as well. Dealing with GL is a PITA. That adds to the retail price of the truck. Getting it inspected adds to the cost. Getting it transported, shipped, driven, however it is LEGALLY and safely removed from the lot adds to the price. When you go up to a retail lot you can touch it, drive it, taste if you want right there. You can walk away or haggle over the price. Don't get that at GL. If I were to sell my truck after dealing with GL, getting it moved, getting it running, getting it tagged etc, it won't be for the 1100 dollar winning bid. Once that truck is in my driveway it's worth more than it is sitting in GLs Barstow lot. I'm sure there are shady dealers out there turning an excessive profit on parts truck junk, but I think they are many more honest trustworthy MV dealers than bad. I could be wrong, it happened once but that was a long time ago.

Then they should let the second place bidder have a chance to buy the item at the second place bid price if this happens.

BTW, I was second place bidder on two of the deuces at Redstone....

Sounds good to me. Assuming you still want it when they figure out he is gonna default.

I agree but I kind of get what BOT is talking about. If you're going to give it to second place, what will be the price? To make it fair you will have to void all the non-paying bidder's bids (even the ones where he wasn't the highest). You may have been in a bidding war with him from $150 up. Should you have to pay the final price if this is the case?
