    What engine can i use?

How fast are you looking to go. I ask because yes you can make them go faster but it is not really wise to. I can understand wanting more torque to get up to speed easier and not loose so much on the hills but have no desire to get more top speed.

Starting research ld 465 1c turbo upgrade

This is still in my plans but life got busy and this is not a major priority at the moment. I definitely believe that a modern more efficient turbo will help with egt’s and controlling overboost like many people experienced when they turned the fuel up maybe a little more than they should have.

    What engine can i use?

If I had a fleet of deuces I would try a couple different repowers. I think these trucks would do well with a gas v8 like the 8.1 vortec.

    Please don’t say head gasket…

Definitely coming from the exhaust port not the head gasket. Like mentioned above could be many different causes. I would probably start at checking the injectors. Does it seem to start any differently or make any more exhaust smoke than normal.

Less than 18 months and under 1,000 miles my axle boots failed.

Just got off the phone with rockwellofroad.com. They say the standard and hd boots are the same part so I don’t know why they have them listed separately but ok.

Less than 18 months and under 1,000 miles my axle boots failed.

Should I get the heavy duty ones or no. I think I am going to try the rockwellofroad ones.

Less than 18 months and under 1,000 miles my axle boots failed.

I got the ones from big mikes. I guess I should have done better research before I bought

Less than 18 months and under 1,000 miles my axle boots failed.

Just did a pre flight inspection on the truck for its first drive this year after winter. Unfortunately I noticed that my axle boots are heavily dry rot cracked and leaking grease. I purchased what I thought were supposed to be the best silicone boots available but… I am not happy about the...

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

I use a pry bar under the tire you can move hundreds of pounds with so little force as long as leverage is on your side

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

I rev mine to 2500 the way I look at it is the white 2-155 (has the same engine as the m35a2 with different accessories) or what ever the model number is had the pto speed set at I think 2400 and those tractors ran that rpm all day long every day.

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

The axle seals and boots are not bad as long as you have the time. It is not a hard job in the sense that it is not technical but it is labor intensive and heavy. I jacked my truck up and picked away at it one wheel at a time until it was done. I don’t want to get in to the engine reliability to...

Is it true of all the slews of bugs that the deuce has?

The important thing is to realize you are buying a used medium duty service truck that has been worked hard it’s whole life. There is going to be deferred maintenance that will need to be done but the extent depends on what you expect from the truck. Brakes, tires, axle boots, axle seals...

    Owning and maintaining a deuce

I am fairly new to the community compared to many that frequent here but Have been around for a couple years. I am interested to hear what your specific maintenance route looks like. How do you decide if something needs attention and what are you willing to accept. If you were to maintain your...

    Knuckle Boots

The last time I had the duals off of my truck this happened. You have a nice looking truck there

Motor dies when letting off throttle

I would change the filters again and start running fungicide in your fuel. Like mentioned above it would be wise to clean the screen on the in tank unit.

Stick with DOT5 or go to DOT3/4

The debate will never end on this subject but in summary as long as you properly maintain your truck both will work just fine. Just pick one and stick to it.

    preventable rear suspension failure

This seems to be a common failure that people find when it is already so far gone that it is unsafe. We really need a sticky with proper inspection and maintenance procedures to increase awareness.

    Found major issue…trans

That shaft is not supposed to have wear like that. I suggest that a new to you used trans is in your favor. There is no telling how much wear is on the rest of the parts and how ow long any of it will last at this point. Repairing that transmission will be like trying to catch a falling knife...

Whistler turbo on a Chevy motor

There are plenty of options for loud turbos but they are expensive. If you call precision they will build you one that is appropriate for the engine you have. Just be prepared to have a light wallet for a while.

Whistler turbo on a Chevy motor

the challenge is that it is far more complicated to turbo gasoline engines compared to diesel. With diesel you can just slap a turbo on it and it will work with no other modifications necessary kinda like what the government did with the deuce (I know they also adjusted the timing but that is...
